Sorry for the sleep post... just curious. I know older kids, like preschool age, understand the concept of bedtime and while they might get up and ask for things like 7826349578236 million times, they don't just howl in their beds before passing out.
Does anyone's babies just go to sleep on their own without nursing to sleep or having a bottle in their crib? (That's the easy way for sure, but I don't want to encourage bad habits...) I know they're supposed to "learn to self-soothe" at some point but I have no idea when that is going to happen. My daughter's been sleeping in her own crib since 5 months and STTN consistently since about 8 or 9 months old.
She doesn't scream for long, just maybe between 5 and 20 minutes depending on the night. And this is after she's been fed, bathed, changed, books read, we say goodnight to the dog and other various items in the house, and I put her lullaby cd on.
I wanna pull out all my hair. I seriously cannot do this mom thing if it means I have to listen to this every night for the next year(s).
Re: When do they stop screaming and just go to bed?
She doesn't have a particular lovey or stuffed animal she's attached to... is that weird? There are some soft toys in there though, but if I give them to her she just swats them away and cries at me harder.
I wish she took a pacifier!
Have you noticed if she consistently falls alseep at the same time? One thing I found helpful in Ferber's book was to put him down at the latest time he consistently fell asleep. So maybe keep a sleep journal for a week or so to see if there is a pattern. Then gradually move the bedtime earlier. When we did that, DS actually moved his bedtime earlier on his own.
He doesn't usually cry anymore. He sometimes fusses, but otherwise usually just talks to himself for anywhere from 5-30 minutes or plays with his blanket.
For A, I take him to his room and we sit down in the chair and I give him a bottle of warm WCM. After he is finished, we cuddle for about 10-15 min. Usually, his eyes are drooping and he is fighting it, but the more we rock, the more they droop. Then I put him to bed and turn on the musical seahorse and close the door as I leave the room. He always cries as soon as I put him down, but goes to sleep within 10 minutes.
In the morning, he plays with his blankets and stuffed toys I leave n his crib for about 30 min-1hr before I get up.
This is us, DD always cries when I set her down in her crib. But she is always asleep within a few minutes, so I have finally just accepted that this is how things are. I'm just waiting it out and hoping she grows out of it as she gets older.
Same here.
