I noticed that some of you have taken online classes. The class I am teaching this semester (a second 8 weeks class) has turned into an online class because we moved about 150 miles away from the university where I was teaching!
I just wanted to know what you have thought the most helpful techniques and least helpful techniques of an online class are. What did you like/not like?
Re: Online Classes
It needs to be flexible. We have a calendar of all expected due dates. For my one course we have 2 chapters, then a quiz, 2 chapters, then a quiz. Like Trudy says it keeps you up with the material. I also like what my one course is doing this semester which is having due dates be every monday and thursday for things. That way you know already that nothing will be turned in tuesdays, wednesdays, and fridays.
If there is a discussion section on your online program (we use something called canvas) take advantage of that and have a mandatory discussion topic each week. Also make it mandatory to comment on another students post. This allows all students to work together even in an online setting.
Good luck!
