breastfeeders come in...

I am currently using medela storage containers to freeze BM ..I love them but a set only consists of 12 and quickly adds up, price wise. I'm wondering what you use to store breast milk. I was considering the honeysuckle storage bags which are bpa free and am wondering what others are using?

TIA!

  • I pump and use Lansinoh sp? bags. They work fine and I can freeze them flat.

This is what I've been doing as well.

  • Are Honeysuckle biodegradable? I'm interested.

It might be...Check out amazon..You can get more info about them there. The reviews for Honeysuckle are really good and the price is affordable as well.

  • I am doing Lansinoh, freeze them flat and store on a big tupperware.

  • I use Lasinoh as well and freeze them flat. They're working well for me, but I also haven't been trying to build up a freezer stash (I'm a SAHM). They're BPA free too.

Yep, me too! I did start out using the medela bags though. I didn't like them because although they claim to be 5 oz, I found that 4 oz of milk filled the bag

  • I'm also using the Lansinoh bags although I've used the Medela bags as well.  I don't think either bag system is really good at estimating volume, but the Lansinoh bag has a tab at the top that you can write in how much you pumped.  I like the bag system - they work well for me.
  • I'm not pumping, only nursing, for our breastfeeding instructor mentioned freezing it in ice cube trays, and when the trays get full, transferring the cubes to freezer bags.  She called them booby cubes :)

  • You can use ice trays. Once frozen transfer the cubes to a big ziplock freezer bag.  One cube = 1oz I believe.

This is what I did for homemade baby food too.
Also in a month or so you can put one cube in a mesh feeder and teething baby gets a breast milk Popsicle.

  • I use Medela's freezer bags. They come in boxes of 50 and they work very well! You can pump right into them too.

  • wow...looks like many of you are using Lasinoh..I was a little wary of these bags because the reviews say the leak a lot...has this been the case for any of you?

no problems with them and I like that you can write the amount, day you pumped, etc

Same here. And anyone looking for a good storage system for their freezer, check out this video. It's working great for us!

Wow!  What a great idea!  I'm going to have to try this.  Thanks for posting.

  • We're also using Lansinoh. We also bought them in bulk from amazon, which made them a lot cheaper.

  • I have used both the medela and lannsioh bags and I prefer the lansinoh

  • Another Lansinoh user here. I've had no problems with leaking, although I mostly pump at work for fresh milk for DS the next day. I'm trying to avoid freezing for the time being. I have too much in the freezer already that we're not using.
  • I use and really like the Ameda Store and Pour bags. They are easily pourable by cutting a corner of the bag. Although the Ameda pump broke for me within the first week, the bags are great.

  • I actually bought the Honeysuckle bags :) haven't used them yet but they seem really good quality and have awesome reviews.  I had a set of 6 medela and thought I don't like the bag system really, it's more economical and easier to freeze than the bottles, though I have lots of bottles too.

I kind of disagree. I have about 60 bags in the freezer and that only cost about $8. If I froze 60 bottles it would cost me over $100 for the bottles and I would have no room in my freezer after freezing.

OP: Lanoish bags are 2 for $12 at Target with 50 in each box. That's a good deal.

I agree.  Read it again ;)  I'm saying it's better to freeze the bags, though I prefer bottles.  I'll only be using the bottles for what I'm keeping fresh for the sitter or DH when I'm at work.

  • I use Medela or Target bags.  I freeze them flat, then store upright in container.  I think all the bags are BPA free these days.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • I buy whatevers on sale.  I used Medela with DD, but I hate the new design of the bags so I am using Lansinoh right now as I got them on sale and had a coupon for them.  I do know that sometimes Lansinoh bags leak when they are thawed, so I'll have MIL thaw them carefully once I go through the early milk I stored in Medela bags.  I've heard Hygeia bags are great, but I think they are only available online.
