What do you send to daycare? (food question)

My DS is eating a combo of chunky purees and finger foods.  When he is at home for breakfast he usually gets oatmeal cereal with fruit with some cheerios/bananas so he will eat said cereal.  Lunch is anything I feel like from waffles to lunchmeat and cheese with a puree of a yellow veggie and a cut up fruit.  I am not sure what to send to the DCP because he never gets enough of the finger foods in him to satisfy his hunger but he needs the finger foods with the purees in order to eat the other foods.  What are you all sending???

  • I don't think he has to fill up on food. At this age he should still be experimenting/practicing with food. Most nutrients and fillers would come from milk or formula.

Heres a link with some ideas for toddler finger foods:

  • I think you are worrying too much about this. Solids are for practice and fun until 1. Send a few things. If he eats them, great. If not, no big deal.

  • LO gets a spoon fed breakfast of yogurt/oatmeal/fruit and a finger lunch. Lunch is veggie, carb, protein, fruit. Most of her stuff is frozen and i throw it together in the morning. Ex: muffins, beans, meatballs, green beans, broccoli, avocado, mango, pineapple, blueberries. Things from the fridge are fresh fruit like strawberries or string cheese, pasta. I'm confused why you need purees in order to eat other foods?
  • Mine has breakfast at home with me - usually eggs, pancakes, waffles, yogurt, fruit, cheese, etc.   If I were sending him in to school with breakfast I'd probably do something easy like a bagel or rice cake and fruit.

For lunch I send him in with whatever I make for DH and I.  Today he had a sandwich, dried cranberries and grapes.

His snacks on hand in the fridge are cheese cubes, raspberries, tomatoes, and currants.  His dry snacks are rice cakes and freeze dried raspberries.
