Has anyone used an ergo without the infant insert, but with an infant? My son is 8 weeks, about 9 lbs. I can get him in sideways and he seems comfy and secure, but I certainly don't want to do anything that could harm him. What do you think? I have a million carriers at this point, but the ergo is my favorite. I like the moby but it's too much to get myself all wrapped and him in it, all the while my 3 year old is screaming to be let out of his car seat....
Re: ergo without infant insert
I wouldn't use it with him sideways. The Ergo is only meant to be used with the baby upright.
If you want to use it, use a folded blanket in the bottom as a "seat" to lift baby up, and leave his legs froggied if they're not ready to splay out yet. Baby's face should always be visible and kissable.

I have, I think starting around six or seven weeks. It was just too hot this summer to have the insert in - I took her to the babywearing store and they helped me adjust everything to make it work. You just have to make sure that their airway isn't compromised and that you can get them high enough. I had her upright with her legs 'frogged' inside the carrier. The only other thing I really had to watch for is without it there isn't enough head support so any time you lean over or bend down make sure to support the head.
