chubby baby question...

My LO has a lot of folds...I have noticed that his skin turns reddish in areas around the folds, maybe due to chaffing? For those of you that experience this, what do you do? baby powder, vaseline etc?

TIA!

Re: chubby baby question...

  • I don't put anything on it, just make sure to bath her (or at least sponge bath) every day, and peel back the folds to make sure soap and water gets in there, and then make sure it's rinsed really well.

  • Agree with previous post. You need to search for those folds... it seems like new ones pop up each day. The chin, neck, thighs. If you clean them out they will be fine. Once clean, the redness goes way. Happy hunting!

this is what we do too but i dont bathe her everyday (every other).  I have also read, but have not tried, that you can put breast milk in the folds.

  • Baby powder works for us, especially if it's a hot day and DD gets sweaty.

This is what I do too. It can be difficult to clean the folds especially the neck! But do your best to get in there.

My H calls my DS an English muffin because he has lots of "nooks and crannies" to clean. :]

  • Make sure you dry them really good after bath time.  You can put a little diaper rash cream on it to help.  It worked great when I did that for DD #1.

My pediatrician recommended diaper cream as well.

My pedi advised against using baby powder for anything since our LOs can inhale some of the particles into their little lungs! IDK tho... Seems like everything is a hazard!!

  • I don't do anything. I try to clean them out regularly though so they don't get irritated.
