Researching car seats sucks

I seriously can't decide what to buy. I've narrowed it down to the Britax Marathon or Boulevard, Graco My Ride 65, or the Evenflo Triumph. I read the reviews of the Graco on Target's website and it's mixed. The major complaint was that it's hard to buckle. If I remember correctly, I thought that the Marathon didn't seem as comfortable as the Evenflo when I looked at them in stores. Anyone that has purchased any of these seats, what features do you like best and what do you dislike about them? I need to get one ASAP because DD is about to outgrow her infant seat.

Re: Researching car seats sucks

  • I have the Evenflo Triumph. We love this seat. I like the harness feature, no long piece to pull the harness tighter. It has a little knob you turn which makes it easier. That is just alittle feature that was nice.

  • I think they're all great carseat brands, I don't think you can go wrong safety wise.  Not sure about the triumph, but we have the evenflo symphony 65e3 and really like it for DS (he's 2 now).  The shoulder strap adjustment is super easy, as well as tightening the straps.  Not sure if the triumph has it, but the symphony has the surelatch connectors that make installing it in a car with LATCH really really easy.  My son finds the seat comfortable and I've never had a problem with him in it.

  • I love our Evenflo. The features are awesome. The fabric is plush and the cupholder is nice.

  • I bought the Graco MyRide 65 in the Preston pattern two months ago. If Target doesn't take it back, I am calling Graco and demanding my money or something. So many people recommended it to me so I got it as a spare. We did two road trips in the past week and Gator HATED it. The head pillow doesn't stay in place so I am constantly having to reposition it. Or Gator decides to pull on it and it covers her face and then she cannot move it. The chest clip is flimsy. The crotch snap is SO hard to click the buckles into.....I even had a few friends try and they felt like Gators legs were going to get pinched. The lower straps go across her upper thigh instead of waist area. Where I could see it makes sense as to not hurt her lower organs in an accident, due to where they are I cannot get it tight against her lower half. Thus, I can slide a while hand between her body and the lower straps....and she isn't small, she is 19lb. Finally, the LATCH system will not work in my FIL 4door 2012 GMC, my SIL's 4door 2011 Toyota Tacoma, my sister's 2010 4Runner, because the straps are so short, that they don't reach to the anchors. So I have to use the seatbelt which defeats the whole purpose of having the LATCH system. The strap to tighten the harness goes right into the backseat of the car so you cannot pull to tighten it when it is installed in the car. The LATCH hooks are actual hooks instead of ones that slide and click and have a push button release like the Britax. So the only good things I have to say about it is that I like the color and it is very lightweight so it isn't bulky when moving from one car to another. We have a Britax Chaperone for her now and love it. I put her in a Britax marathon last night in my cousins truck and loved the ease of the straps. Her son is bigger than Gator and I was able to adjust the harness to tighten it while installed with no problems. We will be getting a Beitax or a Diono.

  • Sorry for the typos. I was trying to type fast while in steaming about how much I hate the car seat and wish I never wasted my money. I even mentioned it on my FB the other day as "out of the dozen car seats I have used as a nanny and a parent, the MyRide is the biggest piece of I have ever owned....." haha!

Thanks for your input. I'm thinking the Graco is out. I've heard too many complaints even though there were some raves about it on Target's website.

  • We went with the Graco My Ride because one of the reviewers mentioned that it fit in her Volkswagen Jetta, which is what we drive. Kind of a silly reason but once we had narrowed it down so far, it was nice to see one of our lesser concerns specifically addressed.
  • Not on your list, but we have a Safety First Air and really like extra head support things.  It's easy to use and comfortable.  We found an online return at BRU for a significant discount!

  • It does suck.  I spent many days going back and forth!  We ended up getting a Britax Boulevard for my car and a My Ride 65 for DH's.  We like them both.  The Graco is easier for us b/c we had a Graco infant seat.  The Britax seems very snug and safe.  The price difference was over a $100 between them, but I think they are both really good.

  • Consumer reports has the Evenflo momentum and the Gracro my rdie 65 as rec'd seats. The Britax's usually aren't recommended because of their price. The Britax is 67/69 ratings overall, the Evenflo momentum is 69 also, the the graco is 61. The Evenflo tribute is 52.  Having had LO in a Britax convertible seat that has the side head things & one that doesnt i have to say my sleeping child was more comfortable in the Britax. I want to have LO is a convertible seat for as long as possible and the Britax goes up to 75lbs, which makes it a winner for me.
  • We love the Evenflo Symphony he is very comfortable in it and hasn't complained.  He hated the Safety 1st (purchased at Costco), it was so upright and whenever he fell asleep he was slumped completely forward.
  • Thanks everyone for the input. Still can't decide. I should just put the choices in a hat and draw it out to see which one I should pick.

  • we bought an evenflo triumph for my son 4 years ago and liked it so much we bought another for my daughter last month.  i like the shoulder straps that don't need to be rethreaded, and the tightening knob pp mentioned. it reclines back enough that i have never had to worry about their heads slumping when they sleep.

the only complaint i have is the Latch strap (on the new one) was not long enough for my trailblazer.  but i took the latch strap from the infant seat and that works just fine.

  • I have a Britax Boulevard and little G likes it just fine. It's easy to use and comfy.
