I could use some advice from you wonderful women about my transfer day.
First i was thinking about doing something special that morning before the transfer. Last year for my birthday my husband got me a gift certificate for a hot air ballon ride beside he knows how obsessed with them i am. I haven't used it yet and I can't fly if i get pg, so i thought it would be a nice thing to do the morning if transfer. I am also a bit concerned that if this doesn't work will i then hate balloons?
Second i am wondering about the pre/post transfer acupuncture. I have done acu both times prior except with this last retrieval. This time i have the option of the sessions taking place in the transfer room. I don't know if i believe it will make a difference or not and acu with a full bladder sounds really uncomfortable! It is an extra oop cost, but if it helps, i am all for it.
Lastly, i live about an hours drive from the RE. I was thinking about getting a hotel for bed rest. That way i wouldn't have to do the full drive after transfer. Also it keeps me closer to the bed/bathroom/tv. No stairs. But again, its another cost.
thanks for any advice or suggestions!
Re: thoughts for transfer day
I think you should do what is best for you.
However, If it where me, I would not go on a hot air balloon ride the day of transfer, because I would be nervous about not making it to transfer on time. I would probably go the day before.
In regard to pre/post transfer acupuncture, I have done both in the transfer room and at the acu office. I preferred acu in the transfer room. I did not have to stress about going anywhere after the transfer, except home (in my case, my aunts house).
In regard to the hotel, I think it would depend on the cost. If it was super expensive I would go home, if not, a hotel close to your clinic could be nice.
GL with whatever you decide. Please keep us updated!

I think the hot air balloon side sounds awesome and like so much fun. I would go for it.
As for the acu, is the question whether to have it in the transfer room itself vs. at the acupuncturist's office or whether to do it at all? I would definitely do it, but I am not sure whether you do it at their office before & after vs. in the transfer room would really make a difference.
As for the hotel, if it will relax you, I say go for it. I am not a believer in bed rest after ET, just based on my anecdotal experience, but if being in a hotel will be the most relaxing thing for you, it is probably worth it. Good luck!!!

Thanks ladies.
For the balloon ride, they take off at 6am and the ride is anywhere from 30-90 minutes, so the latest we would land would be 7:30 and transfer isn't until 10:45, so I think we should have no problems.
I'm not sure the hotel would be more relaxing or not. I think it could go either way. I guess I just don't like going up and down the stairs a bunch between the TV and the bathroom. hmmm...

I would not do the balloon ride the morning of the ET because I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it. ET has always been the most stressful for me waiting to see how the embryos are doing etc. So, I'd be missing out on the great ride because I'd be focusing on the ET...
The hotel: I actually drove home 5 or 6 hrs (well, DH drove...) after the last ET as I was sick of the hotel. But we had been there since the night before the ER. I'd rather just go home and be in my own bed with my kitties...
No thoughts on acu as it wasn't for me.

Never done acu, so can't speak to it. On the hotel, I wouldn't get a cheap one. Go on hotels.com or Priceline and find a deal on one that is 4/5 stars. Go ahead and pamper yourself. It will help your frame of mind and keep you close to the TV without stairs. Besides, who doesn't like lounging around in a thick, terry cloth hotel robe?
IVF #1: 9/13/12. ER: 9/25. 3R, 2M, 1F. ET: 9/28 (1-6B). Beta: moved from 10/11 to 10/10: BFN.

The balloon ride sounds awesome. But, I would hesitate to do it only because I would be thinking about the transfer the whole ride and not enjoying the moment the way I should and I know that would disappoint my H if he had given me such a gift.
We drove 4 hours home from transfer last time - I just wanted to be in my own bed.
No advice on the accupuncture. Good luck!

I agree with mglaurel. I would hesitate to do the balloon ride tha morning, plus the landings CAN be pretty intense. I also wouldn't want to be in a hotel room on bed rest, an hour isn't too bad for driving.
Good Luck, I hope this is it for you!!!

I would do the balloon a day or so before transfer. The day of ET can be so consuming that you may not really enjoy the ride.
As for the hotel, I would drive home. Having access to your own things and finding comfort in them will help make bedrest more tolerable.

I agree with jlynn. I did a balloon ride and due to weather we landed far away for where we were supposed to land and it took longer to get back to ground zero via shuttle. I would not want the stress personally.
Multiple ectopics, 2 failed IVF's
IVF #1: Did not get to ET, embies all failed PGD (major chromosomal defects)
