So Dh and I are taking DD on her first trip. We get to check in her car seat for free but I just don't like the idea of just letting the airlines throw her car seat somewhere. I'm thinking of throwing it in a big garbage bag once we get to the airport....I really don't want it to get dirty....help

Re: Flying...What to do with car seat
I use the stroller in the airport To tote all our gear and then gate check it. One series of cancelled flights/ day spent hauling all my gear and LO from one gate to another and I will never surrender the stroller again before stepping on board. I bring a heavy duffle to protect it. There is usually another mom wrestling a stroller at the end of the jetway to hand LO off to while I bag it.

I have heard however that garbage bags rip so they might not be the best option. I know some carseat companies make these bag thinks for your carseat. And as a PP mentioned some let you check it right at the plane and give it to you right when you get off the plane, maybe you could call and ask about that.
We just got back from our trip. It was no problem to gate check the carseat. I'm sure it got thrown around some, but it didn't get any dirtier (in fact, I'd almost say they knocked some of the ingrained crumbs and dust off). I know it would've gotten thrown around more if we checked it when we got to the airport. So even though we didn't need it during the layovers like I thought we might (airports are too exciting for naps), I'm glad we gate checked.
