I was wondering if anyone could recommend an locally-owned stores for buying maternity clothes? I'm in Cambridge but don't mind driving within 128. And for the chains, are there ones who carry a good selection in store around here? Thx!

Re: Maternity clothes shopping
To me, buying maternity clothes was such a waste, so I didnt bother! Have you considered just buying clothes that are made with breathable and stretchy material? I went through my whole pregnancy wearing dresses, leggings with long shirts, and towards the very end I had to resort to sweat and yoga pants.
If you are determined to buy maternity clothes I say you should check out motherhood, its inside of the cambridgeside galleria on the second floor, if not third. Old navy, which is also inside of the mall has a maternity section too as well as target in Somerville. Pea in a Pod on newbury maybe somewhere to look into, theyre prices may be the most expensive of all the stores mentioned, but they might have the best quality!
Good Luck & Congrats!!
I second Might Aphrodity in Salem. It's a well-organized, well-stocked store with a friendly and helpful owner. The clothes are in very good used condition and great quality. I only wish it were closer!

I disagree with PP. While you can get away with regular maxi dresses and longer shirts, you should invest in a couple pairs of good maternity jeans/pants and tops. I had a summer baby so I wore a lot of dresses and had a great pair of maternity shorts and gaucho pants that I lived in during my maternity leave.
I love consignment stores and maternity clothes can be pricey so I would check there and Kohl's
Somebody told me about this place in Natick has maternity clothes and I thought Target was a great deal for the quality and cheaper than Motherhood.

I second getting some good comfortable maternity jeans or pants. I got by with some long t-shirts (Target, TJ Maxx etc) but pants were a must for me esp. once the belly band thing wouldn't fit anymore!
If you ever venture down to the Wrentham outlets - there is a Destination Maternity that I had some good luck at. Was good for some basics, couple tops, a hoodie (a bit more fitted and nicer looking than throwing on the hubbies old college sweatshirt!), stretchy jeans and I got a black pair of pants.
I didn't have much luck at Kid to Kid in Natick. You probably have to hit it right and often.
I think Target is great too! GL!
I always forget about Wrentham Outlets - thx for the reminder!
I went to Cambridgeside Galleria this week (close to my home) and it suuucked! Macys and Old Navy in theory had maternity clothes but it was pathetically stocked. The maternity store there (forget which one) was ok, but most of what was there really looked like cheap mall clothes.
I think I'm going to have to head out to Natick to a nicer mall to get better options and am curious about the store in Salem.
