Ditto everyone else. I wouldn't have wanted DD in the waiting room when DS2 was born. He was born at 630AM and there were problems with his breathing, and he was taken to the nursery for observation right away. I didn't get into a room and showered with him until almost 10AM. We had the ILs come with the kids later in the afternoon.
We've not been in this exactly situation....when DS#2 was born, DS#1 just stayed with my BIL. It happened to be a weekend. We didn't have him at the hospital at all until DS#2 was born and they came to meet him.
Another time, I had a medical thing with my younger one during the week that was going to cause conflict with DS#1 going to school. Again, he just stayed with my BIL, and BIL took him to school. I was done in time to pick him up. We are very lucky to have my BIL and that he is willing to help us like this!

Before I knew what was happening, we planned to let DS go to school and my parents would pick him up when I had my DD. I didn't want him anywhere near the labor room, or even sitting in the waiting room because it could have been long. As it turned out, I went into labor with DD in the middle of the night, and had her at 6:30am. I waited for them to wake up, my dad fed them breakfast and brought them in to see me. He hadn't told them I had my DD, so when they walked in I had her in my arms. The photo that I have that captured that moment when they first saw her and realized it was the baby that was in my belly the whole time. Just got teary thinking about it.
