There was a bear outside my house!

I woke up to what I thought were gunshots outside my house this morning around 8am. I figured it was just the neighbors motorcycle or something (they are always loud). We live in a very safe town/neighborhood, but when I looked outside there were 2-3 cop cars out and about.

I logged into our small town website and turns out there was a bear roaming our residential areas right where kids were about to start lining up for getting on the bus for school. They called conservation to come and tranquilize it but they couldn't get ahold of anyone or something so they felt that they had to shoot it for the safety of the community.

Scary to think that any later and kids would have been walking to catch their bus!

Yikes! Where do you live? I just read in the paper of the town we're moving to in CO that bears are very active right now, trying to bulk up before hibernation.

We live in NJ. One morning, I turned the corner on my way to work, and a huge black bear was running right at my car. I had to speed up so it wouldn't run right into the side of it. What a sight! Just totally unexpected. I see dear, fox, and the usual critters, but to see this huge black bear was shocking. We know they are around here. I am hoping they start to hibernate soon. That was a little too close for me.
