That candidate test...

I took it for to see how closely it would match me to my party and candidate. Not surprisingly I matched 93% with the candidate I will be voting for. DH fancies himself as a supporter of the other main party and I don't think his party represents his views well. I sent him the test thinking it might show him he leans more in my direction than he thinks. Well his guy got an 82% and my guy got an 80% on his test. I was 2% away from some serious gloating and possibily changing his stubborn mind.

Do you and your SO have the same political affiliations?

DH's parents always ensure they vote the same to ensure their votes don't "cancel one another out". I strongly disagree with this rationale.

Re: That candidate test...

  • Dh and I normally vote pretty close to the same way, but I would have no problem canceling out his vote. My best friend and I vote differently most of the time and I always tell her how we are canceling out each other's votes.

  • DH and I vote the same way. I think it would really annoy me if he had the opposite views that I did or voted for the other candidate, even though that's probably terrible to admit.
  • E have the same views, but I'm the one who follows politics. Before small elections he always ask who we're voting for. Bigger ones we have good discussions for weeks before. We can't watch too much of the other side before election time because I get scared for our TV. We've both been known to throw things at it.

  • We generally hold the same beliefs but I feel like neither a dem or a repub and he is strongly repub.
  • That quiz was no surprise for me. It said I'm really a Green, but also like 92% for Obama. My hubby would probably be the same. He used to think he was conservative, but since he became an environmentalist and social justice activist, not to mention a physician, his views have trended sharply left. He's probably more liberal than I am these days. I usually think his family thought I corrupted him somehow, but I really think his views changed on their own, through study and experiences, rather than anything I did.

  • Yes we are of the same mind, but DH is jaded and so he is much more to the left.  As far as I'm concerned it is nobody's business whom I vote for once I'm in the poll.  I am willing and enjoy talking to people about people about politics.

How do your DH's parent's determine who they vote for?  Do the flip a coin?  Take turns.

My ex and I were on opposing sides we voted our personal beliefs.  We had a lot of good debates and still do.  He is willing to hear my said of things and visa versa.

  • It put me as pretty centrist, with dem leanings. DH was a republican and I was apolitical until I started grad school. It wasn't that I didnty care--I just never liked any candidate enough to give them my vote until the last presidential election.

Once I became more political, I basically turned DH into a democrat.

  • This is gonna sound bad but I tell dh who to vote for. He never researches anything and probably wouldn't vote unless I made him do it.

  • DH and I always vote the same, we just agree!
    A - 4/27/12     D - 7/14/14
  • DH and I agree on a lot of things.  We also disagree on a few topics, but that's the beauty of our relationship, we can disagree, but respect each others' opinions.  We both usually vote the same candidate since we vote for the same party.
  • My Dh is pretty indifferent about politics which is rather ironic because his father is a member of town government and a representative in the Mass. Democratic Council. He believes in the same policies that I do but is not really passionate about any of it.

He does vote though because I would KILL him if he didn't.

His parents are good enough people but they are not intellectuals and their worlds are very small. I suspect they vote straight tickets aka by party lines unless it is a big local issue that they care about. Religion also influences their vote. MIL micromanages the process and sometimes I think it would be awesome for FIL to walk into the booth and vote the opposite in retaliation for her oppression.

I'm not saying that anyone who votes by party lines or in regards to their faith lacks intellect or are small minded. These specific people however do lack the analytical skills and ambition required to assess global issues on their own.

  • I'm pretty sure my DH is more liberal than I am, he considers himself a socialist, like a real one, not a fake "american socialist".

It is funny though because his dad is so Republican.  My parents are decently Republican, my mom thinks everybody she votes for has to be Christian because she trusts them more....

I was a little disappointed I only matched with my party at 93%. I thought I was more hardcore! :-)
