Does anyone else have to wait this long to see the baby?

This is my 4th pregnancy. I delivered my 1st 3 babies with the same doctor but he is no longer delivering babies so I had to switch. I had an appointment at 8 weeks with the new doctor and I thought for sure I would at least have a quick ultrasound done but this doctors office does not have a ultrasound machine. It was to early to hear the heartbeat with a doppler so all my appointment consisted of was bloodwork and an examine. He said my uterus was growing perfectly but this does not ease my mind. My next appointment is not until 11 weeks and 3 days. Does anyone else have to wait this long to see or hear the baby? I've never had to wait this long.

Yeah, I am right there with you. I won't get to hear the heartbeat until 12wks 1day, and I won't get to see the baby until week 20.I am very disappointed by this.

I just met with my nurse yesterday for a qusetion and answer appointment (since this is my first) with blood work. And I FINALLY meet with my Doctor on Monday for my first appointment where we will get to hear the heartbeat. I will be 10 weeks then. They said if everything goes well, I will not have an U/S until 18-20 weeks, when we get to find out the gender. I did have a U/S at 5 weeks, but it was in the ER and not very informative. But we found out everything was ok so that is all that mattered then! Not sure if this helps, but I feel your pain on waiting!

Yep! Heartbeat at 12 wk appt. (Sept 20th) & U/S at 20 wk appt. Pretty standard around my area. Unless you have/ or had previous complications. I told my husband I want to order a heart doppler because I just cant wait any longer!

Mine would have been at 10 weeks, but they needed to do a dating ultrasound.

I'm from England so we don't get anything until 12 ish weeks then the detailed scan at 20. Last time 12 weeks dragged, we didnt tell anyone apart from my mom until after the scan. This time is no different. Only bonus is 12 weeks is a week before my dh birthday and two before mine!

ughYES!!! I was in a really pissy mood about this for days! I cannot get an appointment in that fits with my schedule until sept 21!! I will be almost 10 weeks at that point. and they will NOT do an ultrasound at the first appointment. Which means I will have to wait until the end of October to finally see this baby I have been waiting so long for!! I also want to know if its just one baby, considering I already have twins, my chances of having them again are much higher!

I am in the same boat. My next appointment and first ultrasound will be 11w 3d. It will definitely be worth the wait though!

I had an appt. with the nurse practitioner at 7w, but will not see my doctor or get an ultrasound until 11w. I was pretty disappointed, but am trying so hard to be positive and patient.

It sure does, I had a loss before this pregnancy so I am very nervous which just makes it even harder!

With my insurance in my city, I can only go one place. I had blood work done at about 4.5 weeks (5 sticks, no one told me the results) and my first appt. isnt until 10 weeks. I dont even know if ill get an us then or not.

With my first, I had a different doctor and she only did the 20 week ultrasound. So I didn't hear the heartbeat until 12 ish weeks. With my current doctor, I had a 7 week ultrasound with my second because of my high blood pressure. With this pregnancy, I have an ultrasound next week at 8 weeks, again just as a dating ultrasound because of my high blood pressure. It's completely normal to only have the one ultrasound at 20 weeks though.

I totally understand your frustration. I asked the nurse practitioner if we could try to hear the heartbeat at my appointment this Friday (I'll be 10w 4d) and she said we can only if they have time cuz that's still considered early. I checked the pamphlet they gave me and the only u/s I'll have is at 20w unless there are complications. It's a total bummer... it's just not sinking in because I don't have the proof of seeing or hearing anything.

We're none of you offered the NT scan? I know some who have no interest in the actual test still do it for the 12-week ultrasound. Might be worth a shot to ask if you're feeling really anxious about waiting.

I know a lot of people who only had one ultrasound (at 18-22 wks) but most have had the additional screening and ultrasound at 14 ish weeks too.

Yes. First u/s at 20 weeks and will hear the HB at 11w6d. This after my Dr.'s office screwed up and I thought I would get an u/s much sooner. I am disappointed as well.
