I know, I know. I'm thinking way in advance again since we're still waiting to do our orientation/fill out our initial paperwork. I guess I just like thinking and planning. :-)
When you have foster children, including those you're waiting to adopt, do you HAVE to send them to public school or can you opt to send them to private school? I ask this because if we DO end up fostering children of kindergarten and up age, the local public elementary school that is for my house's district SUCKS. It's the second to worst school in the area and known to be a very poor environment for kids. There is, however, a private school on my way to work that I've heard fabulous things about and would like my children to go to some day. Is that allowed, or is it public school only while still wards of the state?

Re: Foster Care Children and School
In our county, the school has to be licensed at a certain level and the children's social worker has to approve of the children going there. And the foster parents have to pay the tuition. So yes, you could pursue a private school.
Like PP's, homeschooling is not allowed in our county. Sometimes they even require children to go to daycare instead of staying home with the foster mom/dad for more interaction with children and a more structured environment. I can see both sides of this one, but it still seems silly to me in some circumstances.
This is an awesome point! I know it is in the same in our county!
This makes a LOT of sense and I would have to agree with this. I guess I was considering the situation I'm looking at of foster to adopt, because we are hoping to send our kids to an awesome private school in our area in leu of the public school
