Can anyone recommend any good books to read? It's my turn to choose for my book club.

I really think we should start a book club on here. I am horrible about reading and would love to read more. I just get sucked into TV...so if I have a reason to read or keep up with something. I would love it!
ETA: I finally started 50 shades...and it is addicting...and I am ashamed to say I like it.

That was a hard book to read. I cringed alot.

I am down for a book club on here as well! I also watch way too much TV and I really love reading and need to get back into it.

Damaged, by Cathy Glass. Kind of like the Glass Castle. Oh my gosh, so freaking sad and heartbreaking. And I'm all for a book club!
I just finished Gone Girl and it was so good! I recommend you put down 50 Shades and read that!

I know I'm new/not well known, but I would LOVE to be a part of a book club here.
I'm currently reading The Hangmans Daughter. I would recommend The Glass Castle as well if you haven't read it, it's great.
Under The Banner of Heaven is an interesting read-especially nowadays during this heated political time.
Also, a memoir called Tiger,Tiger *warning* about sexual abuse and very disturbing. It was very hard to read because of the sensitive material but It was fascinating. I give mad props to the author for writing candidly about her story.

My book club just finished "Saving the World' by Julia Alvarez. It was thought-provoking fiction. My all-time favorite book club selection was "Dirty Secret" a memoir about hoarding that was absolutely fascinating.
Like PPs said, The Glass Castle is incredible, if you haven't already read it. If you want something lighter, I really enjoyed Garden Spells, too. They couldn't be more different!
Note, I read all of these before LO was born. I'm reading my second book since he arrived now...ah, how life changes.
Do you think we should start in October since September already started?
In the meantime, maybe next week or so, i can post a thread on which book we should read, and we can vote?

Sure, I like the voting idea. Lets post a vote next week for an October book. Should we make it like the photo contest where we gather nominations and then vote or is that too much? Or we can just compile a list of people involved in the book club and draw a name out of a hat and they can choose for that month?
Thanks Jacka, I'm not very good at organizing things, plus I work during the week (well, I'm supposed to be working!!) so I don't know how much extra time I'll have to organize.

Good Questions. I am thinking that we should do one weeknight per month. Say the first monday or tuesday of very month, so the first discussion would be November 5th or 6th at 830 PM when the LO's are sleeping. Maybe not the 6th since that is voting day, but something like that?
We could just have the discusson up all day, or until it dies out, like the FFFC or UO.
Oh yeah, i like that idea better.

I'm in for a book club! I love reading, but it can be hard to find time now.

I've recently read Divergent (a YA novel), and I really enjoyed it. I'm not reading the second book of the series, Insurgent. Little Bee is a good book and I could see it being good for discussion in a book club setting.
Glass Castle was fabulous!
Gone Girl is on my list.

You can also get ebooks free from most libraries. You can download the nook or kindle app on your phone or laptop if you don't have an ereader or tablet.
I think the pick for my book club will be between these 3! I heard 11/22/63 was really good.
I am planning on starting 11/22/63 tonight!!! We'll have to 'discuss' when we're done!!! DH just read it and LOVED it, so I thought I'd start it!
My sister read both and she liked Gone Girl better, I have yet to read either.
I would be down with it being between these three! I'd even read the glass castle again! I'll post a cp tomorrow!!
