If you ask for child support through the court system in my state the court automatically requires you to attend mediation to set up a parenting plan and visitation schedule. Unless your ex wants to pay you without having a relationship you will be required to allow visitation (unless he is unfit ie. convict or something major like that). And it is probably in your child's best interest to have a relationship with the father anyways. However if he gets upset with you he could try to get 50/50 custody and it could turn into a long drawn out court battle.
