shopping ahead

I am a deal freak. I went on the Children's Place website and bought clothes for next summer already. Each item was $1.99, so I got a bunch of stuff for next to nothing.

LO's closet is complete until 9 months. Almost complete for 12mo.

Is anyone else shopping ahead?

Re: shopping ahead

  • Nope I don't. I learned with my first that babies don't stay in the correct label sizes very often.  My oldest flew though 0-3 and 3-6 then spent quite a bit of time in 6-12. He skipped over 18-24 completely. My second stayed in 0-3 for a while then flew through 3-6. He was in 6-12 from 4 mth until 15 mths when he went to 12-18 month clothes. He is still in 12-18mths and he turns 2 next month. Gymboree and old navy have so many sales constantly that I can find enough for each to last. Plus my older two now pick their own clothes to wear so they pretty much go between a few shirts.  I also go to consignment sales.

  • I think it's a great idea especially because im super type A and like to be prepared...like you I'm also getting ideas for her first bday, haha but I'm nervous about predicting her sizes. I did purchase a few clearance items for the next year so hopefully they'll fit, but I don't want to get too much and then find out they don't fit.

    Yes

I agree with this! I found the same thing happened with DD1.

  • I do, but I'm careful about what it is and I've learned to lean up in sizing. I wouldn't buy anything smaller than 18m for next summer. I just got a bunch of tees and pjs for DS1 on the Carters sale last weekend. We've recieved so may hand me downs for DD that she's probably set for the next year.

  • Its funny you said that because I went to children's place yesterday and they were having a labor day sale. I bought DS some onesies 9-12 months, and it would appear as though I'm shopping ahead because he's only 3 months old, but I actually had to go out and buy more clothes because he doesn't fit in anything. The 9-12 months actually fit him now...Therefore, I actually can't shop ahead because I have no idea what he will be wearing. Also, I don't really like to dress him in separates yet, because he is so young and don't like the tees lifting up...So just onesies for now.
  • No. DD1 is size 3T at 20 months. If I'd bought her 18-14m clothes for this summer, we'd be screwed. It's only savings if you actually use the stuff.

Wow... he is big!!! LO is wearing 3 months now and some 6 mo pants (long legs).

I got stuff that she will wear regardless of the weather.

  • I'm not shopping ahead, but I've gone through our stuff and realized that a lot of it peters out after 6 months, and at 3 months she's soon going to move up to 6 month clothes.  So I'm looking forward to doing some shopping.

Lesson learned though, you do NOT need very many clothes.  We had so much stuff because of gifts and hand me downs, and it was just way too much!  So it's not going to cost much to outfit her for the next 9 months, especially if I shop consignment.

  • No, I really don't have enough money to do it. If I do shop ahead, I usually only buy one size up because my first was never in the month the labels had so I wound up with a lot of clothes for the wrong seasons.

  • I just went shopping (woohoo labor day sales!) and got winter stuff in 9-12. I figure itll be cold here soon and hes already in 3-6/6 month clothes.

I got a ton of 12 month summer clothes as gifts. He'll fit in those... probably March.

  • I only go to garage sales and buy for the next six months based on what size he is now and what I think he will be. I go by the brand (based on experience) to determine what I think he will fit into, not the size.  I make sure the seasons match accordingly.  It's hard to go wrong, when you can get a cute outfit that is like new for 50 cents.

However, the grandparents are driving me nuts buying things that are for 18 month olds.  I don't have space for it and most of it looks like it won't fit for a long time yet.  I could be wrong, but who knows.

    It's really just a gamble.

  • Didn't have to lol 75% of LO's clothes are from my baby shower and I got sizes from NB to 24months.  I'm a bargain shopper too but when it comes to clothes I don't buy ahead because you never know if LO will grow fast or slow.  DS didn't even fit into 0-3 until he was 2 months old.
  • I haven't shopped more than the next season. DS is in 0-3 but still fits some newborn. He's a lean baby and doesn't really fill anything out, it's just length he's fitting. I'm sure he'll be in 3-6 through winter. I just went through what he has in 3-6 and bought things to get a good mix (pants, shirts, longsleeve onesies, sweaters, sleepers). I did buy him fleece onepiece jacket thingy for fall, a onepiece snowsuit, and a winter coat. I bought what looked reasonable size wise, not by months. I just laugh looking at 6-12 stuff, there's no way DS will be in them at 6 months.
