Ouch! (PIP)

I took my ring off a few weeks ago when I realized that it was getting too tight. (I never got swollen when I was pregnant with my DD, but this time...whew!) But I wanted the ring on for our maternity pictures, so I put it back on on Saturday, and tried taking it off last night and it got stuck! I have tried everything to get it off! Lotion, Windex, water and liquid soap, saran wrap and oil, dental floss ... Nothing will work! I guess I'll just keep it on and hope they don't have to cut it off.

Reason 1 for having this baby sooner than later.... Ugh!

  • OMG ouch!!

This worked for my friend a month back:

    1. Soak your hand for 5 minutes in cool water

    2. Sit at the table and put your (ring hand) elbow on the table with your hand up - this will help the blood circulate out of your fingers/hand and help bring down some swelling...do this for 10 minutes

    3. With your hand still up, rub an ice cube on your ring finger for a minute or two then rub some vegetable oil all over the area and wriggle the ring back and forth and upwards while keeping your hand elevated

This worked like a charm for my friend, and I hope it helps you too :)  GL!

  • Ouch! That looks so painful!

Ugh, my wedding band has been stuck since, um, before I got pregnant. None of those tricks worked for me, either. :(

Oh man that looks terrible! Try Whimmy's solution. I was also going to recommend icing it and giving it all a go first thing in the morning! GL!

  • I suggest ice water too - my fingers shrink when I'm cold!

I forgot to mention...I tried ice water/ice and holding it above my head. After trying different things for a couple of hours, it actually got more swollen.

    Thanks for the tips, ladies!

You may need to try it a couple of times and adjust the time you spend soaking and elevating...but hopefully it works.

  • OMG, that looks ridiculously painful! :(

I'd try the ice water thing and see what happens.

  • Ow, ow, ow!

Ditto the ice water - that is what I had to do with DS at about this point in the pregnancy. Nothing else had worked.

  • Oh my gosh, ow! My engagement ring hasn't fit in about a month, and my wedding band is increasingly snug. I've only been able to get it off right after showering.

  • I'm sorry. That's not comfy. Try the I've water thing first thing in the morning if your hand isn't feeling sore and swollen.

  • Thanks everyone for your advice! It looks like I'm headed over to the fire department soon so they can cut if off! At least I don't have to pay! :)  But I'll probably cry...
