How much coffee?

How much coffee are you ladies drinking?  I was a one (sometimes two) cup everyday kind of gal before getting pregnant and stopped cold turkey once I found out.  I've started letting myself have 1/2 cup every other day or so but am finding that I want it every. single. day.  So, how much are you limiting yourself to?

Re: How much coffee?

  • I rarely drink coffee and if I do its decaf.. Well this morning with the second day of school for the kids.. I was exhausted and decided to have a real cup of coffee.Guess the baby loved the caffeine because he/she has been doing flips for an hour lol.. I believe you should limit yourself to 1 cup a day though.

  • I don't drink it everyday but when I do want coffee I only drink a cup. That's what my doctor recommended to me.

  • My midwives say 1 16-oz caffeinated beverage of any kind per day.  Since caffeinated drinks have all different levels of caffeine, on days when I am REALLY dragging, I will let myself have 2, as long as it's under the 200 mg limit.

  • I love coffee. I got decaf (which has some caffeine, but not as much). You can have up to 200 mg of caffeine a day. I try to stay well below that but some days you need a little bit more.
  • I have one cup of half-caf coffee a day. I'm sure one cup of regular every day is fine since it is under the 200mg limit.

  • Before I got pregnant I had maybe a cup a day.

Now I find that after 1/2 a cup I don't want anymore anyway. I still want that 1/2 a cup in the morning and I don't beat myself up about it. 1/2 a cup of coffee is well within the safe range of caffeine consumption, especially since I don't drink any other caffeine.

  • I try really hard to limit myself to one caffeinated beverage a day if needed.  For the most part, I've done OK without it but I buckled and got coffee shop coffee yesterday.  I was dragging.
  • It's 200 mg of coffee.  I found this info online, which shows how much 200 mg of coffee is:

    1 tall cup of Starbucks
    2 shots of espresso
2 cups of drip or percolated coffee
    4 cups of black tea
    10 cups of decaf

My doctor said that it's totally safe to have caffeine.  I haven't been able to drink coffee for the past 7 weeks because it hurts my stomach, but I usually have either a large iced green tea or 2 cups of black ginger peach tea a day.  It soothes my stomach.

  • If I want coffee, I have coffee. I try to stay under the 200 mg limit. You do not have to stop enjoying coffee.
  • I have one to two cups a day from my Keurig maker. My doc told me this pregnancy and last that two cups a day is perfectly fine. This is the only caffiene I have, and make sure to drink plenty of water, too.

  • Before pg, I drank one cup each morning.  For the longest time, I was so sick that it never sounded good, but since the nausea is getting better, I miss that hot drink in the morning- and the caffeine boost!  I slept awfully last night and was dragging this morning, so I had one cup of half caff.  It was awesome!  May be hard not to drink every day now and that small amount of caffeine gave me a great morning boost!

  • I use to drink a lot of coffee a day, now I am trying ot have decafe or only 1 cup a day.  I am still getting sick almost everyday so sometimes I can't even have any...

  • I miss having coffee whenever I want. I used to drink about 20 oz in the morning and sometimes a latte in the afternoon. Now I'm down to somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 oz and I add milk to make it a little less potent in the morning only. When I first found out I was pregnant I felt pretty ill so I went cold turkey for about three day (unintentionally) I had the worst headaches ever, but eventually got over it.

Dr. said I should try for "one unit of caffeine a day." Not really sure how to interpret that, so one mug is what I stick to.

  • I have 1 cup a day right now (lots of creamer). I was highly addicted to coffee before I was pregnant, and I cant wait till I can have my 3-4 cups again! haha

  • Before I was pregnant and drank a few cups a day.  During my first trimester, the smell of it made me sick.  Now that I'm transitioning into 2nd trimester, I've been able to be around coffee again.  Right now I'm sticking with decaf or 1/2 decaf/regular...about 1-2 cups a day over the past few days.

  • I'm more of a tea person and have cut back to one strong cup of Irish tea a day.  This will get harder as it gets colder, as I typically drink about 4 cups a day in teh fall/winter :(

  • Hmmm - when I responded before, I wasn't thinking just in terms of coffee, as I'm not much of a coffee gal. But that usually changes when Fall hits and Starbucks brings the awesome.  But at least I'm too frugal to want to get Starbucks very often.  I think I'll let myself have a gingerbread latte a week, though.  That seems only fair :)

  • I have a cup every morning.  I'm not a morning person, so getting up at 5:30 is hard on me.  If I didn't have my coffee, I'd fall asleep at my desk... I figure the baby needs me employed so we have a house over our heads, so it's fine, hehe.

  • I probably have 2 cups a week and its a little bit of caffeine mixed with mostly decaf.  I don't really need the caffeine but I like the taste and it's relaxing to me to drink a cup of coffee while I'm in class and such.

  • I was 2-3 cups a day...home brewed 6oz cups.

I'm now coffee free and really don't miss it unless I walk by a dunkin donuts.

I indulge in chocolate everyday so thats when I get my caffine.
