BFN but period is 8 days late... what now??

My period is now 8 days over due and I'm pretty sure that I am pregnant. when do most women actually get an accurate test result?? It make me anxious since my common-law husband and I have been trying since about may and I'm still getting negatives. Any advice??

  • Test once a week until you hit 60 days with no period and then call your doctor.

  • You could call your doctor and get a blood test.  Do you feel any symptoms yet?

  • Most women can get a positive HPT by their expected period.  Were you charting?  Do you know when you ovulated?  If not, you may have just ovulated late and your period is not really late at all.  I'd call the doctor if you get to 30 days late and no period.  I know it can be frustrating not having it happen right away, but it's perfectly normal for it to take 6-12 months for healthy couples (with good timing) to get pregnant.  Good luck!

  • Are you charting your temps? Unless you are, you really have no idea if your period is late. You could have ovulated late, you could have had a late implantation.

I'll echo PPs that you should keep testing once a week until you get your period/hit 60 days without one before you bother your doctor. Please don't waste their time with a blood test.

  • You may just be working yourself up to thinking you are. 8 days late should definitely give you a positive... you may also be experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and that is why it is still undetected. I would call the Dr. to schedule a blood test immediately AND get on prenatal vitamins (if you aren't already).

  • Last month/cycle, I was actually 10 days late and kept getting BFP. I wasn't pregnant. My cycle was just off kilter for that one and I ended up getting BPF in my next cycle. Have you been under stress lately? Any life changes? Eating changes? Medication changes? Anything can throw your cycle off it seems.

    Heh?

This. I definitely don't think it's an ectopic pregnancy.

And FWIW, ectopic pregnancies still have the ability to produce the HCG hormone.

This. My period didn't show up for 3 months once (about 2 1/2 years ago). I don't know why. I definitely wasn't pregnant. I had to go to my doctor and get meds to make it come back. I've been regular ever since.

Did you mean to say last month you got BFN?  BFP would mean that you were pregnant, if even for a short time.  Congrats on your BFP this month!

A blood test will not tell you that you're pregnant any sooner than an HPT.  BFN= not pregnant.  There are many reasons for a delayed period other than pregnancy and running to the dr for a blood test because your period is late when you don't have a BFP is a waste of everyone's time and money.

Truth.  With both of my ectopic pregnancies I got a BFP the day my period was due.

FFS people, a period that is a week late and no BFP in site is not reason to call your doctor.  If it were two months late?  Yes.  But 8 days??  No.  Some people have wacky cycles once and a while, it doesn't require medical attention.

She probably ovulated late and her period isn't even due yet.
