December 2010 Moms

Grr. Two nights in a row

So the incessant crying, combined with yelled appeals to mama, is back...this time at bedtime. I'm trying to be strong, but also just worried about my little guy (and want him to sleep so I can).

He calms down as soon as a parent is in the room, so I don't think he's sick. I think he's just got a major, major parent-attachment thing going on.

Re: Grr. Two nights in a row

  • Are there molars coming in?  Our experiences with this are either teething, illness, or night terror related.

In any case, I hope LO settles in for the night.  Sad

  • Loading the player...
  • I bribed mine tonight.  I told him if he would stay in his "big boy bed" and not come looking or yelling for me all night, then I would buy him ice cream tomorrow after school.  I don't know if he understands what I'm saying, but he was mumbling something about ice cream when he fell asleep. :)  Bedtime = parent's worst nightmare around here, but it always has.  I feel for you and I hope your peanut is okay and not getting sick!

  • Smart move on the ice cream. I may have to steal that for tomorrow night.

I can't believe he's up to an hour of this craziness. We haven't done this since 6 months old.

  • Our LO has been going through a phase the last few weeks where she needs a longer wind-down routine (30 minutes instead of the 5 minutes we used to do) and she also goes to bed at 9 now! It used to be 7, then 8 after the time change and this most recent phase has us pushed back to 9.

I really mourn the loss of alone time with DH because by 9pm we are both exhausted and ready for bed ourselves!

Hopefully this is just a quick thing for you and a major change isn't needed.

  • We are doing a later bedtime as well.  I don't know why....because we have to wake up so early!  Bedtime falls between 8:30-9.  There seems to be more book reading, singing, and cuddle time.  If I try to put him in bed too soon, he screams.  At some point....I am going to have to lay down the law!

  • Hmmm. Interesting. Maybe we should try a later bedtime. OR more singing and cuddling. We have been starting wind-down at 7:30 on bath-nights like tonight with the goal of 8:00 bedtime, but maybe we should start a tad later....adn maybe he'd sleep past six? (I'm sure that's a crazy dream).

I don't know if I can take another nearly-two-hour crying jag as a nightly bedtime feature.

  • We are completely opposite on the bedtime. Since starting back to school/daycare, he has been asleep by 6:15/6:30!  If I try to wait a little longer or take too long with dinner/bath, then he's a bigger nightmare!  Apparently, he's exhausted.

Yep, this is us too.  If we wait to long for anything (bedtime, dinner, naps, baths) C is usually more of a nightmare than if we just did it earlier.  I've been finding that her bedtime has moved from 7/7:30 to closer to 8 these days...not sure how that happened!  Maybe now that it's getting darker earlier it won't be so hard to get back on track :)

  • We had a screaming bedtime last night too.  It must be the partially-full moon or something.

  • For the record, the ice cream bribe totally worked!  He woke up once, but stayed in his bed the entire night!!!  I'm hoping for a second night of bribery working, because I once again offered up not only ice cream, but a fun new sticker chart as well.  Except he cried today when the sticker wouldn't come back off the paper so... well, we'll see how that goes.
