I personally don't see anything wrong with having a baby shower for a second child. I think it's actually worse that people get offended when it's suggested. As mentioned previously, EVERY baby deserves to be celebrated. If you don't want to buy a gift than don't. But don't gossip about the mother-to-be or the host for throwing the shower. It's supposed to be a happy time.

You must be new.
Because it's been repeated I don't know how many times that showers are not celebrations of the baby.
They are to welcome a woman into motherhood by showering her with gifts to help her care for the new baby.
Semantics. I don't think the average person is splitting hairs over the meaning of the term "baby shower". In general, it's a party to celebrate a mother and her child. Old school etiquette is going out of fashion for a reason. My point remains- People complain about throwing showers for a second baby because they're too cheap to buy a gift.
