Breastfeeding

What to do with this milk?

I have been pumping and freezing in anticipation of my return to work (I have quite a lot at this point)-- however, I just extended my leave, so I won't be going back to work until January. I know that breastmilk cannot stay in the freezer longer than 6 months, and I have some stuff in there from July and August. I am wondering what to do with this milk... I can either (a) use it 2x per week when I have class and DH is in charge until I use it up or (b) pump fresh milk on the mornings that I have class and donate what I have (c) something else.

What would you suggest?

Re: What to do with this milk?

  • You could also use 1-2 bottles a day and then pump and re-freeze it to rotate your stash through.

I think I'd choose A and then pump and freeze the fresh while you are at class

or if you are confident in your supply, donate! I would love to be able to donate

  • I think it is too early to donate definately use the old and freeze the new.  I'm also guessing your not using a deep freezer because that milk can stay foehn longer.

  • I'd rotate and pump new, it would be awful to donate it and then find you need it later in.
