um. yeah.
the great news is hubby got a great new job that will take us back within 30 mins-hour of my hometown - where most of my family and some of our friends reside.
but sooooooooo not looking forward to finding a place, turning on/off utilities, scheduling a mover, packing, oh and finding a new doctor for myself AND the kids - all within a TIGHT timeframe.
fortunately my mom is planning to come help pack/entertain the toddler once we have official moving dates.
in our worst case scenario (not finding a place within the next 1-2 weeks) that means I'll just stay here, have the baby and move a few weeks later. My mom would come and stay with me during that time.
Anyone experience/ing something similar? tell me how afterwards everything worked out and how you were glad to do it pre-baby. please. I need some positive reassurace, lol
Re: Moving at 36 weeks
Just did this at 33 weeks. We moved about 1000 miles from where we were, to within 30 miles of my mom and the rest of my family. I've spent the last three weeks getting settled, but it has been totally worth it. Being so close to family has eased so much of my stress.
One of the best things I did was finding and scheduling an appointment with my new midwife as soon as I knew our moving date. Scheduled a pediatrician appointment for DS about two weeks later. Having these two things on the calendar made a big difference for me as far as having peace of mind.
Absolutely! I chose to move 10 days before I was due with DS instead of waiting until after for that exact reason, and although it certainly wasn't easy (and we weren't finished unpacking, etc when DS came), I was really glad I didn't have to deal with the whole thing with a newborn.

This is actually what I'm most anxious about. I would do it now, however we are looking at a wide range of locations for our next place (think a radius of 1-1.5 hours) which greatly affects the hospital I will deliver at as well as who will be my OB/MW. As much as I would love to get it off my to-do list, until we know where we'll be living, I can't.
Even though I knew where we were going to be living, and there are OBs closer to my house than the midwife I chose, the two hospitals where I can deliver are equidistant. I chose my midwife, who practices 45 minutes away, and really didn't have a hospital choice because she only has rights at one of the two hospitals. I asked the other day about when to head to L&D given that, with traffic, we're about an hour from the hospital, and she told me it didn't really matter all that much. There are patients who come from as far as 3.5 hours away to deliver with the midwives in that practice. That was a little overwhelming for me at first, because I was about 6 minutes from the hospital when DS1 was born, but it doesn't seem like a big deal now.
How many hospitals are in the radius you're looking at? What practices will your insurance cover? It may not be as big a decision as it seems at first. Also, one thing to think about, would it be possible to choose a doctor/hospital close to family already in the area? That was ultimately a huge decision maker for me. The hospital where I'll be delivering is about 15 minutes from my mom's house.
I'm moving to Northeast Ohio - just in Cleveland alone there are 5+ hospitals, 2 more in Akron, I think 1-2 in Medina. So we're talking 8+ hospitals, plus all the varying practices that deliver at those institutions. And, I'm trying for a VBAC. So, yeah...
