Special Needs

Self-Care Check-in

When you have a child with special needs, it can be hard to find time to take care of yourself.

  •  What did you do for yourself this week?

  • Challenge for this week: Read a book for pleasure.

Re: Self-Care Check-in

  • Lily has night nursing because of her trach and g-tube.  Well, we've had bad luck when it comes to night nursing the past 2 weeks (4 of the last 14 days nights have been unstaffed).  And, whenever we don't have night nursing, I'm the one who has to stay awake (I'm the one with the flexible work schedule).  This, paired with a hectic month of work, means I haven't had much sleep in the past couple of weeks.  Today, I slept in for the first time in 3 weeks.  I feel glorious.

That has to be the only thing I do for myslef on a regular basis. I keep mine in the WC, for privacy, KWIM?

  • I went shopping for a bit yesterday. I got myself a skirt and a shirt.

  • I started back to school this fall, so I read books most nights. :) And I am excited to learn about the topic, so I think that counts, right?

I also exercised twice last week, which was good.

  • Yesterday I took an 8 mile/4hr hike in the mountains minus the kiddos. I've also taken up reading again, I just finished the fifty shades trilogy and now I'm reading the marriage bargain
  • I've had my parents in town for the long weekend, so I've gotten a nice amount of time to myself or out with DH. We even went to go see a movie. :)

I like the challenge -- I'm reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

  • I've been asking DH for over a month to take care of the baby for the majority of a day minus breastfeeding of course so I can actually get some work done around the house. He finally did on Friday our last opportunity since he goes back to work tomorrow and it was glorious. DD came unexpectedly a month early so I didn't exactly get to nest. Anyhow, our house is much more organized now and it feels really good. I also took DD clothes shopping for some retail therapy on one of her super fussy days.

There are plenty of books I'd like to read, but no promises!
  • I started taking group fitness classes with my best friend. I get some time away, get to exercise, and get a date with the BFF.

I've been reading Harry Potter lately. I'm almost finished with the 5th book. My oldest nanny-kid is reading the series too. It's been fun reading with him.
