Sweet tea lovers, c'mere!

Recommend your favorite sweet tea, pretty please :)  I have tried a ton, and can't seem to find one that I'm in love with.  After moving from southwest Virginia to IL, I just can't get my hands on some GOOD sweet tea.  Maybe I should just make my own, but I'm too lazy.  I just bought some Tradewinds and ehhh...I like Gold Peak, and the Arizona sweet tea isn't bad...I actually bought a gallon from Walmart the other day and it was surprisingly good!  Help please, I'm dying here!

  • I make my own. 4 Lipton tea bags plus one flavored tea bag (usually Black Currant, or raspberry, or mint), in the tea pot with boiling water until steeped. Pour into pitcher with 1/3-1/2 cup sugar or honey, and top off with water. Stir. People always tell me how good my tea is, and the secret is the one flavored tea bag. It's not enough that the tea tastes super fruity, but it gives it a little something special.

What kind of tea pot do you use?  I have an electric kettle, so I'm not sure if it would work...and how much water per tea bag?  I like the idea of one flavored tea bag, sounds good!

  • I wish you had Publix up there, I would recommend their sweet tea alllllll day long.

It's a ceramic tea pot. Like, Mrs. Potts, if she were truly inanimate. I heat my water in the electric kettle and then pour it in over the tea bags. I really don't stress the water or measure it. I just fill 'er right up. I have a couple different tea pots, and I feel that 5 tea bags may be too many for a smaller teapot but it's better to have the tea strong and water it down with water and ice in the pitcher. Pro tip: twist all the tea bags together before you put them in, makes it easier to get them out after and prevents that terrible thing where one string falls in.

Publix tea is awesome. Milo's is also good. You can find it at most major stores around here. They carry it at the Wal-mart.

I had a friend over and gave him a glass of it. He is from NC and loved it. Said it tasted home brewed.

  • Sweet Leaf! It's soooo good and comes in a few flavors, though classic is my favorite.

  • I usually make my own. I use lipton or Kroger brand tea bags. I also second that publix has awesome sweet tea. You can buy it by the gallon.
