Is Bower/Bauer terrible for a first name for a boy?

Bower is a maiden name on my husbands side of the family. I was thinking of using it as middle name, but then someone suggested it as a first name. We could also spell it Bauer, but that's not how his family spelled it. His nickname would be Bo. Please feel free to be brutally honest...I'd rather know how people would really react to it.

Love it as a mn. My sister and I both have family names as our mn, and I think it is a very cool tradition. I also think it is interesting as a first name.

I think it's a great name for a dog. My friend has a boxer named Bauer.

I also think it would be fine for a middle name.

DH is a hockey nut and we jokingly told people we were naming the baby Bauer. I would never use it as a fn but Bower as a mn honoring family would not get a side eye from me.

It's fine for a middle name. I think that for middle names the significance is the most important thing. People will rarely hear your child's middle name and when they ask how they got it it's more interesting to say "It was my grandma's maiden name" than "My mom thought it sounded nice". In that spirit, I'd spell it the way it was spelled by your family member.

I think it great as a mn. Sounds a bit pretentious to me for a fn to be honest I do like Bo as a nn tho if you decide to use it And I much prefer the Bauer spelling
