Trudy's ticker is starting to give me heart palpitations
But, that's because I work retail.
However, here's a question- How does Christmas "work" in your home. In my family, Santa leaves one gift, it is opened and put together, so when the kids come out, they see it immediatly. This is the bigger gift, and all the rest are smaller items that come from family. We plan to continue this tradition, but both DH are adamant that we do not want to go overboard (like both of our families do.) We want to teach J that Christmas is not all about gifts, and not to expect a toy frenzy every year.
Also, has anyone thought about what they are getting LO this year? We are probably the only family that doesn't have an exersauser yet, but I am not sure I want to wait that long. By Christmas, he wouldn't use it much longer. What would an 8 month old be into? This is my first kid, and I want to make it special. I need to start buying now, so I am not spending one whole check near Christmas. I am determined to plan ahead this year!
Re: Christmas...
Four posts in a row titled "Christmas" is freaking me out!
But on a serious note, I went to target and picked up a few toys that will be age appropriate without spending a lot. Also shopped the $1 section for some bath toys and some books. He'll be at a fun age for Christmas but he won't really know what's going on anyway so I'm just getting some small things. I may even wrap a pack of diapers for him to rip the paper off of. I know his grandparents are going to go toy-crazy anyway.
I don't want it to be all about the presents, but more about the family, however since we have so much on both sides to visit I am more worried about hurt feelings and how we are going to squish them all in one day.
I responded on one of the others but here it is again...
I'm sorry for the anxiety!! But I like to think of it as "Christmas excitement"
Most of the gifts will be from Santa and they will be wrapped in Santa wrapping paper (this is what my mom always did). Gifts that are from family members are wrapped in different wrapping paper. Also, if I have more than one child, each kid gets their own wrapping paper from Santa so you can easily see which gifts go to who.
I have no idea what we're getting her. I'm thinking the My Pal Violet toy and just a few other things. She won't remember this year and I'm sure our families are going to go nuts so we're going to try to limit it.
Santa leaves lots of wrapped gifts under our tree ~ and he must have a key to our house cause he starts leaving them about the middle of December! There is always one big Santa gift that is unwrapped (like a bike etc) that this there Christmas morning. Stockings are also filled by Santa.
Last year (for inside baby) and this year DH and I have a set amount to spend on LO and we do those in secret so we won't know what eachother got LO until Christmas morning!
OH BOY now I am getting excited!
Ohhh I like this!
This year, we will probably get LO one gift since we're taking her to England for Christmas.
Growing up, we just got a bunch of gifts that were from Santa and/or Mom and Dad. My sisters and I each got each other one or two gifts.
Next year, and down the line, we'll probably have a set amount of stuff to give to her from Santa and then maybe one special thing from us.
And when she's old enough, I'd like her to be able to pick out one gift to give to a child who doesn't receive any Christmas gifts.

We do this too.. We ahve agreed we are not going crazy the first two years because its POINTLESS.. my neice was born in April and her first christmas was like TORTURE to the rest of us because my sister was trying to make her open presents and she scremaed the whole time.. soo fun..
We plan on a few presents under the tree maybe this year.. but we plan on doing his "play room" for christmas (half of our family room) we are going to et the foam letters for the floor.. a play tunnel, I have a slide already and some play tents... (also purchased already)
We probably won't go crazy this year for Mike. He has a million hand-me-downs, from his brother, and really does not need more. He'll probably just get a few toys. Santa will probably bring a wagon this year for both boys, because really, I want one! We celebrate with one side of the family on Chistmas Eve, the other on Christmas Day. My side still celbrates with both sides, and DH's just on Christmas Eve, so every year we switch off, and sometimes do both sides of my family, and then DH's on the 26th.
Ideas for our kiddos - Learning table and "standing" toys. We have the Leap Frog Table, and an old FP Piano table thing, and John still plays with them! They are great for kiddos learning to stand up.
We do most of our gifts from us and one gift from Santa that is wrapped in different paper. I may get a few toys for LO that I wanted for DD1 but never got but she doesn't need much and we won't be going overboard.
For DD1's first Christmas (she is an April baby too) we got her various age appropriate fisher price and leap frog toys.
This year I'm not planning to do too much because he won't understand. Actually, we decided to travel this year but will stay home on christmas from here on out because he won't know any different this year.
I'd like to think I won't buy him much but I already buy too much so I doubt that will happen.
I do hope to sew stockings for the family... I'll even make an extra so it matches for our next baby (hoping for 1 more)
We will be going to ireland for christmas so she can spend time with all my family. Also I assume she will be lavished with gifts there..hmm better bring an empty suitcase.
I think when she is ready we will start buying a tree and stuff, we don't really do that now but I want it to be a family tradition for us, I always loved christmas growing up! My favorite holiday by far!
I LOVE the Christmas countdown! It's my favorite time of year (and my birthday is in December, oh and so is my anniversary!)
We plan on doing very little and I have sworn my family to one gift! We do not have room, he won't remember anything and he doesn't need anything!
my mom started the tradition of a 'travel money' account-she sets aside money that she holds on to, and when you want to travel, she strokes a check for however much you want from your 'account'. I would like to start that for Joshua too.
Since I work in a place that never closes....a hospital, I will be at work for my LO's first christmas. Sucks.
