Oh In-Laws

My in-laws are here until Thursday, and I feel like I'm in another person's home. They are great people, but they can be hard. I feel like they are too comfortable in my home. My MIL went to Walmart and picked groceries, and meals for her to make every night they are here. I'm grateful for helping out, but I enjoy cooking for people and I found it a bit insulting (silly I know).

My kitchen is now run by them. My fridge is full of their food, and they never put their dishes in the sink. They put them on the counter next to sink. This morning I go downstairs and they took dishes out of the sink and put them on the counter. Why take them out lol?

And my FIL tells me that he wanted to give Peyton a bath in the sink last night while my husband and I were out. Thankfully, MIL said she thought I wouldn't like that. I had no response for that one, I just wasn't comfortable with the idea.

I just needed to vent. I do love them, but they've been harder to be around since Peyton was born. I can feel like they think they're Peyton's parents, and I'm a visitor.

  • I can understand what you are feeling a lot. Even though they mean well, it still isn't how you would do things. After my cs my MIL stayed with us for a few days and she made dinners, which was super nice, but a lot of it were things I didn't like. I ate it cause I was super anemic and breastfeeding so I needed to eat, but it would have been nice if she asked why type of food I like or don't like. I'm not sure how she just figured out all the foods I didn't like and made all of them. Also, my dh does the whole placing dirty dishes next to the sink thing. It drives me nuts!!!!!

  • Yeah I think I'm just super sensitive to them. I need to get over it for everyone's sake lol. And yes my husband did that with the dishes when we were first married. He's a million times better with it now... I think I scare him :/

I would be sensitive too:)  I'm so OCD about my kitchen.  Luckily my inlaws live in the USA so they are not underfoot.  But yeah, I hear ya.
