Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Questions for those who've been here before...

I am currently going through my second miscarriage in as many years.

The first was within days of finding out I was pregnant, and actually much like a regular period.

This one at 12 weeks.  It is VERY painful, and the bleeding is intense.  I just didn't know where else to turn, the Dr. office is so vague with their responses.

How long (on average) would you ladies say the intense (far worse than period) cramping lasts, and the large volume of blood?  Just looking for when I will start to see this subside.

  • I'd say you are in the right place for asking these questions.  But you are bound to get varied responses.  I was 8 weeks when the HB stopped and 10 1/2 when I MC'd.  It was painful for me, but mostly in my back.  I bled alot but it was a little over a long period of time.

My dr. said if I fill a pad withing 30 minutes or pass clots the size of my fist I should go to the ER.

    Hope this helps for now.

    feel better.

  • My first m/C was in 3 years ago but it started with a back ache(3 days) with light bleeding, then progressed to bad period cramps(2 days worth) with heavy bleeding then the day that I passed the baby it was horrible (24 hours) then back to slight cramping but heavy bleeding.

The blood loss was out of this world but As long as you dont fill a pad in an hour for more than 2 hours you should be fine. However if in doubt call and tell them you think your blood loss is too much and they should have you in.

  • I was 7wks. Mine started with backache too then light bleeding for 2 days. On the 3rd day it was a lot more blood and by the time i went to the ER I felt like i was in early labor...shooting pains down my leg and all. I bled heavily (at least for me) for 3 days then it stopped. According to the ER doc it wasnt heavy bleeding but to me if every time i stand up blood pours out thats a lot.

  • I was 11 weeks.  I had an u/s around 6.5 weeks, and had a strong heartbeat, but no appointments after that, so I'm not sure at what point it stopped growing.

I started with some light spotting on Thursday.  No cramping, no pain.  It lasted all day.  Friday morning I woke up and the bleeding was a little stronger, a few tiny clots, but still not heavy.  I called my OB, and they scheduled an ultrasound just to check.  Between making that call and leaving for the visit, the bleeding got heavier, larger clots, and I started to get some intense cramps shooting across my midsection.  Then my lower back started to hurt.  On the 30 minute drive to the radiologist, the pain was so intense that it had to be like true contractions - I'm not even sure how I kept driving.  I lost the pregnancy at the radiologist's office.

All weekend I've had on and off heavy then lighter bleeding, lots of clots.  I took naproxen sodium and ibuprofen in the highest dose my nurse recommended, as the cramping was pretty intense.  By last night, things had slowed down, and today I'm only having very light bleeding again.  Hopefully this is the end, but I know there's every chance it could pick up again.  I've had no pain today, and physically feel pretty good.  Emotionally, I'm still a little raw.

  • I was 9 weeks. I spotted for a week and then had intense back pain for a day and some cramping. The next day I had regular pains that went to severe pains for about 5-6 hours until I passed the fetus. I then continued to have cramping and bleeding. I had severe bleeding for a few hours. I bled through a pad every 5-10 minutes. I went to the ER because I had no idea what was happening.

After I went home I continued to bleed for over a week (like a heavy period) and was extremely sore for a few days. It then went down to spotting..and to minimal pain. It felt like a super long process :(

I'm sorry for your loss...I'm glad that you're here though. This is a great place to get support.

  • Thank you ladies.  My Dr. Office has been less than helpful.  I appreciate the help.  I am looking forward to getting to know you ladies.

I am very sorry for all who have lost.  It is something no one can describe until they've been through it. Hugs to you all.
