How do YOU do it?

Hello all!  I am new to the board.

I am a FTM and have completely stalled in the weight loss department... which is no surprise since I've been completely inconsistent about exercising and I'm shoving whatever is handy into my face whenever I can grab a second or two... so my question is... how do you do it?  My LO is 10 wo and she cries whenever she is not being held or asleep

What exercises do you do and what do you do with LO while you are doing them?  I feel lucky if I manage to get through dishes and a shower in a day!

Re: How do YOU do it?

  • I had my mom or DH watch her while I went to the gym 5 days a week

  • LO is now almost 13 months old, but in the beginning, DH or a babysitter would watch him when I went to the gym. Now I take him to babysitting at the gym 3x a week so I can run. 2x a week I do a weights routine at home with a DVD when he naps.

You can do this. I gained 66# when I was pregnant with LO. It was horrible. I just took it one day at a time and was back at my PP weight 7 months after he was born. I'm now 13-14 pounds below my PP weight. I lost the additional weight without trying or doing anything differently. I wasn't trying to lose more weight, (I was 120# PP) but it just happened. You can do this!

  • Consistency is the #1 predictor of success, so whatever gets you there, on a regular schedule, is going to be your key.

  • I would not recomeend letting your LO CIO this young.  LO was with you for 9 months and you are a comfort to him/her.  If nothing else, put baby in the stroller or babywear them and get out for a walk.

I laid DD3 on the floor next to the treadmill early on and ran while she smiled at me.  Then she progressed to being in the saucer, etc.  Now it is a strickly nap time activity (the treadmill) if she is not in the stroller or with DH.

  • If I were you, I would start walks with LO in the stroller. Some exercise is better than none. Also, do you BF? That can also contribute towards you losing your baby weight. I am able to take 90 minutes out of my work day, 3 times a week, to go to the gym- so, I take advantage of that time. I warm up with anywhere from 2-4 laps and I do strength builders (planks, push-ups, sit-ups, ect.) or I'll use the spin bike. I never work out for more than an hour because I don't want to push myself too hard. Breast feeding has helped me lose a significant amount of weight as well.

Just wanted to second this suggestion. Also, as my LO got older and started to sleep through the night, I started to get up roughly an hour before he normally wakes up to work out. It took awhile, though, until I was getting enough regular sleep to consider this. So be patient with yourself. :)
