Well ladies. I am an preemie mom veteran once again, it appears. DD was born at 29 weeks and while we were hoping baby #2 would go full term, we knew the odds were against us.
Austin Daniel was born on August 28th at exactly 32 weeks. I started bleeding on the Friday before he was born and was started on Terbutaline and eventually Magnesium Sulfate to stop the contractions. It appeared to be working for a few days, but it didn't stay that way for long.
On Monday, the 27th, the contractions started coming back full force and when I wash checked on Tuesday, the 28th, I was 100% effaced and 3cm dilated. There was just no more stopping him from coming.
He was born at exactly 7 am at exactly 4 lbs. He is 5 days old today and doing really great. He is not on any oxygen support or IV support. He lost a few ounces after birth, so he is in an isolette until he can get back up to 4 lbs, but he is only at 3 lbs 12 oz, so he doesn't have much longer to go, maybe another day. The biggest hurdle, we think, will be mastering suck/swallow/breath before he can come home.
I am hoping and praying this NICU stay will be short. DDs NICU stay was 68 days, so I know this will be a lot shorter, but any amount of stay is longer than I want to be away from my baby.
Good luck to all of you preemie mommies that are pregnant again or TTC. I wish you all the best and full term baby dust!
