Toddler bed vs twin bed

We are looking to get our almost 23 month old his big boy bed for his 2nd birthday. He is a big boy in the top 95% of his age group and I am hesitant about getting him a toddler bed that he will outgrow quickly. I have been looking at twin beds as I think this will work better... I would love some input from others, are toddler beds really worth it or is it a good idea to just go ahead with a twin bed? He started climbing out of his crib at 18 months and loves to sleep in mom & dads bed...

    I would just go straight to the twin bed.  The only reason we will have Chloe in a toddler bed is because her crib converts.  However, if I am pregnant around the time she is converting she will go straight to a twin so we can use the crib.  Our twin beds have a rail we can put on for when she is just starting to sleep in it so she doesn't fall out.  Or you can buy them if your twin doesn't come with it.

    Go for the twin.  My 22 month old has been in a twin since he was 19mos.  When he wakes up in the night he'll usually just yell, "Mamaaaaaa" and I go lie next to him for a while.  I couldn't do this if he was in a toddler bed. (Well, I guess I could, but it wouldn't be comfortable). 

    We just put the mattress & box spring on the floor inside the bed frame so that it's very low to the ground in case he falls out (which he hasn't done).

    Our crib can convert to a toddler bed and a full. I think we;re just going to skip to the full and buy some mesh rails if he needs them.

    We moved DS to a full at 17 months...he is size 3t. He is much more comfortable in his new bed and not using the crib mattress anymore.

    Thanks all for the input! :) I have been looking at twin beds and am noticing there are a lot of platform beds.... I was hoping to find a nice set with a headboard and footboard... Didn't know it was going to be so hard! 

     

    Anyone have any places to recommend to look?
