Re: XP: C-section - what to expect?
I had an emergency csection with DD. it was painful but not as bad as I thought it would be. Ask if they can keep your arms unstrapped and if you can stay with your LO. Take it easy after--let people help you out and you will have a smooth recovery. I should have taken up people on their offers for help more than I did! Good luck!!!
You may already be in there, and if so, I am sending you good thoughts and healthy surgery!
If you read this before you go in, my experience was really not bad. I was a little nauseous from the spinal, but I just breathed through it. My DH got to hang out by my head and hold my hand. I don't remember it all that much, other than some pressure and weird pulling feelings. It didn't hurt, just felt weird. And not being able to move my legs was odd.
As far as recovery, don't over-do it, but get yourself up and moving around as soon as possible. Getting in bed and out of bed, it helps a lot to hold a pillow tight over your incision to sort of "brace yourself" when going from sitting to standing and vice versa. You will have vaginal bleeding just like with a vaginal delivery, but it helps to use this as a cue for when you are doing to much (if your bleeding increases, you are probably doing too much, but hopefully they will tell you all of this.)
When you get home, take as much help as you can get when it comes to cooking, cleaning, etc. If someone else can do it, let them. Just spend time letting your body heal and bonding with your baby. I remember feeling like I had to entertain people who came to visit us, and I wish I had gone easier on myself.
That is all I can think of right now, but you are welcome to PM me if you have any questions. I hope you are doing well and I'm so happy for you!
ETA: Stool softeners are your friend! I was so afraid to poop after because I thought I would hurt myself, haha.
Make sure you keep up on your medication and stool softeners.
It will help you for sure!
