Hello!
I just found out that I am pregnant. Any suggestions for finding a doctor or hospital that supports my decision not to get vaccines while pregnant and to pursue a birth plan not involving drugs?
I have tried checking out a few OB/GYNs in the last year, and most of them have seriously guilted/scared me about the vaccine issue. I know that there are good arguments for getting vaccines while I am pregnant, but I really want to have a doctor who listens to what I want to do and doesn't try to push any particular point of view. It seems like all of my friends have gotten epidurals (and planned to), and their doctors seemed pretty traditional, so I don't have any good resources for referrals through word-of-mouth.
Thanks!
Re: Newly pregnant - how do I find a Dr. to support natural pregnancy?
We ended up going with a midwife at a free-standing birthing center here in NM. She is wonderful and support us in not wanting to do any unnecessary testing or drugs during delivery. I know that a lot of midwives also work in hospitals if you are more comforable giving birth there. Just look for a CNM because they have degrees (and medical training). I'm sure that there are OB's out there who would support natural birth as well, it may just take more research. Also, if you end up going with an OB you could look into a Doula to help reinforce your wishes during the birth process. I hope this helps!
Ask local childbirth educators or doulas in your area. They are likely have a good feel on which doctors are supportive of natural birth.
There might be a Birth Network in your area:

They are a good resource.
Your local La Lache League might be able to help too.

All of this. Find a Midwife. Ask La Leche League who they recommend. You will find lots of like minded women there!

As for finding a natural birth friendly doctor or midwife, I agree with the PPs. Word of mouth is your best bet.
I think the vaccines recommended for me to get were tetnis, flu shot, and whooping cough.
