C-sections

When can I drive?

I am 7 days PP after an unplanned  c/s. Over all I think I am healing really well and alot quicker then I thought.  I have to keep forcing myself to slow down.  I'm wondering how long before I can drive.  I know because of seat belts and accidents and all I'm supposed to wait... but how long?

Re: When can I drive?

  • After my c-section I was told 2 weeks until I could drive. I felt fine and up to driving by 1 week PP if not earlier, but I followed the advice and waited the 2 weeks. My c-section was also unplanned, but was a typical c-section with no complications.

  • I was told to wait two weeks or whenever I stopped taking the Vicodin, whichever was later.  I was also told that I needed to be able to slam on the brake without having pain.

  • The OB who did my first two c/s said I was fine to drive as soon as I felt able, as long as I was off the heavy drugs.  I was off the drugs a week out, but it was around the 2 week mark that I needed to drive anywhere.

The OB who did my last c/s said 2 weeks.

  • After my one week appointment, my doc said I could drive as soon as I could stomp pn the gas without pain. I can do that, but I am afraid of driving, so I will probably wait three or more weeks if possible.

  • My doctor did not give me any restrictions except for no driving on narcotics. However I was lucky enough to have my husband home for the first 21 days, so I did not have to drive until week 4.

  • I was driving less than a week post-c/s.  My doc's only rule was not to drive while I was still taking the vicodin, and I stopped taking the vicodin pretty much as soon as I was discharged from the hospital.

  • my dr said ten days, but he also said to check with my insurance company, bc if I caused an accident within a certain amount of time after surgery, they wouldn't cover it.

I didn't call, lol. drove at ten days.

  • You need to see how you feel.  I took one pain pill @ home so the meds were never an issue.  I took a one minute drive @ 5 days pp and about a 15 minute drive @ 9 days and yesterday at 10 days I drove over an hour.

  • You can drive when you are off narcotic pain medications, able to push the brake hard if needed and able to look over your shoulder comfortably. There is no "correct" number of days.

  • I was able to drive when I got home from the hospital (5 days PP). Of course, I wasn't taking any pain meds and felt really good........

  • I was told 2 weeks.

I was feeling fine and driving at 12 days pp with ds. I will have to drive my son to school next Monday which will be 2 weeks. I plan on seeing how I feel this w/e and taking a short drive.

This exactly. I felt fine to drive, but I didn't per doctors orders. Probably a good idea in case I had a knee jerk reaction or something that would have affected the incision area.

  • I was told 2 weeks, but I was driving within a week. (I was done with pain meds almost as soon as I got home.)
