2nd Trimester

what i would give.. (TMI POST)

Oh I could start listing all day the things I would give to take a nice good poo! I have tried everything.. stool softeners recommended by my doctor, prune juice, anything with pulp, corn (haha), and the dairy products that used to have me running dont do anything now. I go back to the doctor tuesday and am thinking about getting a suppository even though I really dont want to.. anything has to be better than crapping bricks right? Anyone else having this problem or have any suggestions that might work? I would try ANYTHING! lol

  • My doctor suggested Miralex and one dose worked for me.

  • I don't have any advice but I know how you feel! I used to go at least three times a day and now if I go once it's a good day. I try to use benefiber clear everyday but it's hard because sometimes I get diarrhea so it's either one extreme or the other.

  • Ugh, I'm right there with you!  The other day my 30-weeks pregnant friend said that poooping is like a cross between giving birth ("ouch, get this out of me") and having an orgasm ("yes, yes, oh yes!"). LOL

  • I know how you feel! I'm 16 weeks and my digestive system is just FINALLY getting back on track. All of a sudden the other day I was back to my normal self--I hope yours is just a temporary phase too! The best thing I found to do during my "brick" period was to drink water. I'm the worst at drinking water but I've been determined to get through 10 to 12 8-oz glasses a day. If I got any less than that the following two days were misery! Fruits and veggies every day, Activia yogurt, and taking short walks every morning are my other tricks. Good luck!

  • Fat! I don't mean a cheeseburger either. I use butter (full fat). I put it in my coffee in the morning and it works very well.

  • It took a good 5 days of miralax before I felt relief.  Lots of ruffage and fiber and lots of water. I know it is awful! Good luck!

This, although I take Miralax every-other day (it's a stool softener so you won't have to strain and in turn helps to avoid hemorrhoids). Keep up with the water. A Fiber One bar works for me to get things moving; shredded wheat works for my friend who is two weeks ahead of me with her pregnancy.

  • You and me both!  I might try that Mirilax suggested.  Except I still have occaisonal diarrhea too...which is almost a relief and almost worse at the same time...  Pregnancy has it's joys.   (Ignore the thousand spelling mistakes please!)

  • I wish I had a magical solution because I am having the same problem. In fact when I was at the dr last and told him I am really constipated, he laughed and said "welcome to pregnancy" :( He suggested Miralax though, which I could take in addition to the 4 stool softeners I take each night, plus Citrucel 2x/day.

  • I put ground flax in everything when I had that same issue the first time I was pregnant and it did the trick!

  • Switch to a prenatal without iron - unless of course you specifically need it .... the iron causes "back ups" in many people
  • Have you tried switching your prenatal?

  • I'm at 14 wks too and the same has just started happening to me too. As someone who's more used to IBS, this is an ODD experience! Thx to all for the suggestions to the OP.

  • I have to tell you I haven't had a single issue- my primary craving since week 4 has been Thomas English Muffins. I always buy the Light Multigrain variety that has a super high fiber content. Whatever it is about that particular brand of fiber...is highly effective for me. I eat 1-2 every single day. Put some plum jelly on that and you'll be good. :-)

Worth a try- tasty, cheap, easy to work into your routine!

If that doesn't work combine it with some Taco Bell bean burritos... That could tip you in the opposite direction! Apologies for TMI on my end there...

  • How much meat are you eating? When my brother's ex-wife was pregnant with her son, she had horrible constipation. Like she pooed once every week or two and it was always a multi-hour affair. We're all vegetarians and she would always mock us, so it took my brother 6 months to convince her to try a vegetarian diet. After that she had no constipation whatsoever. For her second pregnancy she immediately took up a vegetarian diet again and didn't have any constipation.

  • Water, water, water, water!!! And a decaf or half caff coffee first thing in the morning (with some more water) can do wonders!
  • Double dose of miralax (doctor okayed this) and Fiber gummies.

  • If you are nervous about using a suppository/enema (which totally work btw) I would go excercise and drink some hot water with lemon. Not to be gross but I cannot remember ever coming back fom a yoga class, drinking that and not dumping my life away within the next hour.

This would make sense, this is what they told DH to take before his colonoscopy to clear him out.  Good luck :)

you put butter in your coffee? Would it not work on toast?

  • I tried EVERYTHING!! For me the only thing that worked was the yogurt Activia. I ate 2 or 3 a day. It took a couple of days, but things have been "moving" ever since. Good luck, I know how awful it is to feel that way!
