3rd Trimester

Mucus Plug early?

I believe my mucus plus went early. Everything I am experiencing or can describe fits the description. Called the local birthing unit and they agree.

Issue is I am only 30 weeks. Birthing unit said it more than likely mucus plug and that I could have up to 5-6 weeks until going into labor, but could also go as early as tomorrow.
I feel completely fine and have no signs of labor or dilation.

Has anybody had this happen to them or heard of this happening early?
I am just worried about my little guy being premature. If it is 5-6 weeks atleast he is closer towards full term, but if it is any earlier I am worried about how tiny he will be.

Re: Mucus Plug early?

  • I wouldn't worry mucus plugs can grow back so you actually lose it twice.  I lost mine at 31-32 weeks and I am 40 weeks now and just lost it again and no baby yet.   I wouldn't stress over it unless you have other signs of labor.

  • I lost mine at 23 weeks and went to L&D, they did noting for me and told me they don't get excited about mucus plugs. I am now 28 weeks and have had no other symptoms.

  • Don't worry too much. Sometimes you lose the plug or a piece of it, but it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to go into labor any time soon. There have been lots of reports of women losing some of their plug about now, but it tends to just grow back within a few days.

I lost some of mine right at the 30 week marker after having been intimate with my husband. I freaked out about it for about a day, but then calmed down after some research. I haven't had any other signs of labor, so it was probably just a piece that will grow back.

If you start feeling contractions or see blood or are leaking fluid, definitely get to the doctor ASAP, though.

  •  I wouldn't worry to much about it unless your water breaks or you start to feel labor coming on...n u'll know!! I am 27 weeks preggers with my 4th child and am starting to lose my mucous plug also..but it can regenerate itself also!! Best wishes to you and good luck with the baby!
