Nap boot camp begins tomorrow

I am starting my mission to get DD to nap in her crib tomorrow. I'm following the Go Big or Go home ideal here! So no more being held for naps. I'm planning on outing her down drowsy and going in to soothe at 5, 10, and then 15 minute increments until she's asleep. She's going to be so mad but I have to do it for my sanity. I literally am getting no time to myself and it's beginning to affect my marriage. I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be lots of crying. Am I terrible?! Anyone else do this? Was it successful?

  • Good luck, I hope it works well and isn't too hard on either of you.

  • I just want to wish you luck. It might take a week or so, but she will get used to it and it will be so worth it. We are switching dd to the crib from the swing for naps this weekend. It takes her a good 30 min to fall asleep sometimes now, but she just needs to learn how to relax in the crib. We had to revert to using the white noise to help with the transition.

30 minutes is not bad! Are you doing two or three naps a day? How many days since you started?

Well we started her doing nights in the crib about a month ago. When we started that it would take her about an hour to fall back asleep if she woke up. Now we've just started naps. She used to do three naps in the swing: 3hr morning nap, 20 min afternoon nap in her stroller, 1.5 hour evening nap. Now the morning nap is about 1.5 hours but that's over the course of 2.5-3 hours of her going in and out of sleep, and the afternoon nap is 1hr. We're still adjusting.

She doesn't cry when she goes down though, just bops around and talks to herself until she can relax enough to fall asleep. I started on Thursday, but she was just hanging out in the crib and not sleeping or only sleeping for 30 min, she's doing better now though.

We have been keeping her evening nap in the swing since she needs a solid nap before the long stretch before bed. I figure we'll move the final nap once she's doing the other two soundly in the crib.

  • I did this and it really wasn't bad at all. The first time ever it took 45 minutes which was kind of brutal but she did eventually fall asleep. And she never hysterically cried, just alot of whimpering and fussing and every 5 min I'd go in and give her the pacifier and put my hand on her chest. I never picked her up.

1 week after I started she was a completely reformed napper. I now put her down drowsy with a pacifier and after a few minutes of cooing she falls asleep. Very rarely does she fuss and if she does I go in after 5 minutes and that's all it takes is that one time of going in.

It has really made a world of difference! Good luck!

  • Good luck! I would love to have her go down easier, but I don't think I'm ready to hear her cry.

I'm jealous! I know DD will cry because I tried once and she screamed bloody murder. I gave in and got her. I either need to do it 100 or not at all. It's so hard.

  • I am considering this too, because she doesn't fall asleep at the boob anymore!
