Come in and vote...(PIP)

We are painting DS's room.  Originally it was the light blue on the bottom (that you see in this pic) and latte on top. My vision was to paint it navy - top and bottom. Now we are debating whether we should leave the light blue on bottom.  Thoughts?  (So far my FB post is unanimous).

  • I would leave it.  I think it looks cute!
  • No. If you're going to do two colors, you should have the dark one on the bottom.

I know you're "supposed" to do the dark on bottom and light on top, but If it's already this way, there's no way in heck I'd go back and repaint the WHOLE thing

    This.

A navy room for a child seems too dark and oppressive.

  • Hmmm....normally I'd say do dark on the bottom and light on the top but I'm not opposed to how it is now, especially since its a kids room and I think you can break the "rules" more. Also...I'm kinda leaning towards leaving it how it is with the lighter on the bottom because I'm not sure how I would feel with it being all navy because it is a kids room, unless you will have a lot of colorful accents but I think you mentioned doing a red, navy and white theme!?

Sort of. It is a sports themed room. So, we have a (huge) scoreboard that we made, his initials in red and we are going to hang jereseys in shadow boxes and team pennants.

The light on bottom instead of dark is what is nagging at me. But, I agree that it probably needs to be left this way instead of all navy as I originally thought. Plus, DH is doing all the work and so he kind of gets the final vote ;).

That sounds great! I love the idea of Jerseys in shadow boxes. Will the light blue work with the jerseys you are planning on hanging or will it clash? If it will coordinate I say leave it how it is. Since its on the bottom you'll have a bed/crib and at least a dresser and maybe a book shelf up against the wall so it will be more of an accent and broken up a bit by furniture. You can always paint it navy later if its still bothering you once the room is all put together.

Oh, that is a good point! Well, the good news is we still haven't gotten the jerseys so we can pick them to coordinate. :)

  • My son's room are pretty much the exact same two colors. Except the darker blue is on the accent wall, and the three other walls are the light blue.

As a PP said, I think it would look better if you had the darker blue on the bottom, and the lighter blue on the top.

  • I say leave the light blue - it looks good! But I agree with getting rid of the latte :)

  • While I would typically say the whole thing navy, I actually like the light blue at the bottom since the furniture is the darker espresso color.  I like the contrast of the 2 colors.

  • I really like it this way. Yes you are "supposed" to do it the dark on the bottom but I think these particular colors work just great the way it is and I've absolutely seen designer rooms with the colors flipped this way :)

The majority did say leave it. We are going to leave it right now. I am waiting to see what it looks like with the room back together to see if I am 100% okay with it.  :)

    Thank you all so much!!!
