On Monday afternoon I came down with a slight fever, aches, and chills. Since then I have had what I will refer to as "GI" issues, if you catch my drift. It has been awful with no relief. I went to an Urgent Care on Thursday and it is probably a virus but I am also being tested to see if I picked up a parasite like giardia on our last trip to Russia.
This is day 6 and I don't have a fever/chills anymore, but in the GI department, I am not any better than I was on Monday. I am under instructions to be on the "BRAT" diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) until I am better and I am so hungry for real food. Plus I'm not well enough to leave the house so I am going stir crazy.
So has anyone here ever had a parasite? Or a GI virus that lasted 6 days? I am so sick of this and need someone to show me some light at the end of the tunnel!

I picked up something nasty several years ago and it was while I was abroad.
It is miserable... but it will pass. Hopefully soon!!
Thanks!! Did you have to go on meds or did it pass on its own?

Yuckers. Feel better. I've been down with a UTI since Thursday, but at least that visibly *starts* to feel better.
I picked something up at a Coke Zero Race back in July and after many doctors appointments and different medicine it took six weeks for me to start to feel better. I had bacteria in my blood. I have since cut so many foods out. But if you feel like you haven't gotten better get into see a primary doctor, walk in can overlook so much as can the er. Feel better,

After a trip to Guatemala DH and I were super sick. They put us on anti-parasitic meds as a precaution because they weren't sure what was causing the severe GI issues. Those meds were horrendous! We still joke that they just scare the parasites out of you. So if you are on those meds, we found that you won't feel better until you have completed your 10 day course. But they did do the trick for both DH and I. Although after the 10 days it still took a few more days for us to be back to 100%.
When we are sick we live off of "sick soup" from our local Chinese restaurant. They don't call it that, but we do. It is called cream corn chicken soup, or something similiar. It has a egg-drop base with cream cream in it and little pieces of chicken. A great way to get some protein and change up your menu while still giving your tummy a break!
I can't have dairy, but I did read that chicken is okay so DH is going to the store right now. Never thought I would be so excited at the prospect of plain chicken and potatoes for dinner! Thanks for sharing about your experience; I feel better just knowing that if I do have a parasite it will be over way before our second trip. Thanks!
