Thoughts, opinions, etc on which one is better?  TIA!

Re: NBR: Kindle Fire vs. Nook?

  • I have both.  I like the Nook because it gives the actual page number and not some percentage. Now a disclaimer, I have a regular nook and not the tablet.  I do have the kindle fire.  I prefer the nook with the e ink. When I read on the kindle fire my eyes get super tired. But its great for the middle of the night with the back light.  I try to minimize the eye strain by setting it to black with white letters. Also the regular nook is lighter and smaller.

  • I have the kindle fire. Before I got it though I had the Kindle special offers (which I loved! Got a 20% off my current laptop because of it!). I just prefer shopping via amazon and it so getting the fire was more convenient for me.

My sister has used both nook and and kindle and I think she prefers the Nook, but my other sister prefers kindle. It's just really your own preference.

  • I have the fire and love it.  I miss the e-ink for outdoor reading in bright sunlight.

I think the nook is lighter?  I haven't used it though.

  • I have the Fire and really like it but if you're looking for a tablet and not just an e-reader, get the iPad. Both the Nook and Fire are completely dependent on Wifi hotspots and cannot access the Internet without it. At least with the iPad, you have the option to access 3G if you want to pay for it. If you're looking for an e-reader, it's just going to be about personal preference. For the Fire, Amazon offers a lot of free books that change all the time. For the Nook, if you're in a B&N you read any book you want for free for one hour per day. And that s just to name a couple perks.

  • I love my kindle fire! One of the biggest advantages is that you can actually download library books onto it (2 week loans) so I can pretty much read any book I want to on there. I also have Amazon prime because we do a lot of shopping on Amazon, so I love all of the free movies/tv/books that I get from there as well. The wifi hotspot thing is a bit of a draw back, but I'm not one of those people who needs to be on the internet everywhere I go (I don't even have a smartphone) and I use the kindle to read the majority of the time, although it's nice to get on facebook on it too.

  • You can also download library books onto a Nook too.  I love my Nook!  I use it to surf the web, read, play games, etc.  Love it.  My eyes have never gotten tired while reading at night.
