Preemies

Finally have my freezer back!

Adalyn has FINALLY finished my supply of breastmilk! Yay! I'm glad that she was able to have predominantly my breastmilk for the first 7 months of her life, but I'm glad to no longer have to worry about thawing and heating up her bottles! I look forward to just mixing her Neosure and feeding her right away.

I stopped pumping a few days after we brought her home, so end of April/beginning of May. I was so very fortunate to have a HUGE supply while she was in the NICU.  At the height of my pumping I was getting 35 to 40 ounces a day! Thank god that the NICU gave us free bottles to store all the BM in--I would spent a small fortune on stuff to use to store it. We had both our freezers full of milk and had to use half of my parent's freezer to store it.  It feels good because it's like we've entered a different era.  Like, one part of the chapter has closed and we're starting a new one.

Re: Finally have my freezer back!

  • Congrats!! Just wanted to say I love how you said you feel like you are starting a new era, that really hit home with me and gave me a different perspective. I am still currently exclusively pumping, even though like you have a huge stockpile that I have barely touched. We went and bought a deep freezer that is full. I am not going to lie I am a little addicted to pumping, just feel like when she was first born it was the ONLY thing I could do to help her and had some control over the situation. I am seeing someone for some post traumatic. But I must say your post has made more of an impact then she has about my pumping!! Where should I send the check, lol! Sorry to high jack! But really I love the idea of starting a new era! DD is starting solids and will be 6 months next week so in reality I prob have more than enough to get her to a year and I have no problem supplementing with formula if need be! Looks like I may start weening myself, this mama and her boobs and pump are tired!!!! Thank you thank you!

I'm glad that my post has helped you! I know that we had our babies very close together, and that they were both micro-preemies, so we're kind of in the same boat.  I know what you mean about how pumping gave you modicum of control--I felt the same way.  Here's to starting a new era! Smile

  • That is AMAZING that your stash has lasted this long!!!!!!!!!! I thought I had a great freezer stash, but my supply tanked soon after we got Jack home and we went through the stash within three weeks!! It's funny, they treated me like a pumping superhero at the NICU (I only have one working boob and they were impressed with my dumb little 5-ish ounces per pump), but YOU, m'dear, are THE pumping superhero!! Congrats to you and Adalyn that it has lasted this long!
