  • Honestly, as a teacher, I always tell parents just to talk to their kids.  Talk at the dinner table, talk in the car, talk while they are getting a bath.  Like a PP said, use adult words and give the kids time to respond thoughtfully.  Read before bed and then talk about what you read, talk about their day and not just "What did you do in math," but deep questions, "Oh you did fractions, how can you use fractions outside of school?"  Lots and lots of conversations!
