My dog is pregnancy challenged

All I ever hear about is everyone's dogs and cats being SO in tuned with pregnancy, following the mom to be around, etc.

well my stubborn little used-to-be Momma's boy is treating me like the plague...

We have a large L-shaped sectional in the living room and his "spot" is normally on the end of the L that I sit on, right next to me, head almost in my lap.  For the last few weeks not only does he prefer to sit down on the other end next to daddy, but he will actually get up and move if I sit down next to him... go to the other end and give me the side eye...

a@@hole!

Re: My dog is pregnancy challenged

  • When I was pregnant with DD my dog was the same. This time he has to be in the same room as me at all times, I hear him sniffing outside of DD's room when I'm putting her to sleep.

  • LOL My dog is just plain clueless. I don't think he'll ever "catch on". But our foster dog that we've had for a year has been right with me even a few days before my BFP(I'm not going to lie, that gave me some hope!).

  • Okay, I always thought I was crazy and reading into things, but my cat went CRAZY around me right before I found out I was pregnant for the first time and I always secretly thought that she could sense it.

  • I don't think my dog knows any different yet. He was so excited to see me pull in the drive way lastnight that he got close enough to my suv that I ran over his foot! He was fine but I did hear the "thud". He's a giant breed so nothing really hurts/phases him. He ran inside and up the stairs after it happened. Just missing a little patch of fur thank God!
  • Neither of my dogs knew or cared about my last PG or D&C but my little guy has been protective of me at the dog park. Today, I was in a creek at our big local dog park and a big pit mix came over to sniff me. The little guy ran into the creek in between the two of us and started growling.

However, he is also just a little bit crazy.

  • I have 2 black labs, and they trade-off duties of "babysitting" me.  A few days before my BFP, the female started sleeping next to me on the couch, with her head in my lap. That's something she usually reserves for DH.  Also, she usually sleeps on the floor on DH's side of the bed, but recently switched over to my side.  The male lab is avoiding me at all costs, unless the female is doing something else.  Then he's by my side until she comes back.  Last night, I went to bed before DH.  The boy lab slept in bed next to me until the female came in the room.  Then she gave me a good sniff and went to lie down. At this point, the male got off the bed and went to sleep on the couch (his normal spot).

    **siggy warning**

  • sorry your dog is doing that :(

i know it sounds crazy but my cat has been acting very differently lately, in a good way. his behavior has improved so much (but we did just move from a small tiny apartment to a much bigger apartment with a better floor plan, so that could be why).  DH keeps joking that our cat knows :)
