This really bothers me

I'm looking through fb and I see a post of a girl that went to high school with my sister. Apparently her bf beat the *** out of her. She posted a picture of her by the pool with a blackeye and all bruised/scratched up with the caption, "Neva let anyone get u down". She has a child with this man (or should I say ***) and I can almost guarantee you that they will be back together. I never can understand why girls stay in relationships like this. I'm also surprised she posted that picture on fb. Domestic violence is so sad and I'm really bothered by that picture. Her little girl is going to grow up thinking that it's okay for someone to beat her.

Re: This really bothers me

  • That is very sad. I'm surprised that she is showing it off rather than hiding and being ashamed by what happened. I was in an abusive relationship, which I never thought I would be in. I can't speak for her, but for me he started off awesome. I hated my mom's husband because he was a drunk so I wanted to move out and my new boyfriend was a way out. I was only 20, but I moved out of my mom's and got an apartment with my boyfriend. We were only together for 3 months before we move in together, he wasn't my normal type at all but he was so nice and caring so I dated him. Then after we moved in together, that is when it all slowly started. It started with him just saying little things that by itself you may not think twice about. Then it got worse and worse as he made me have no self-esteem anymore. He ended up being a drunk too but he hid it before we lived together. He trashed the apartment, like flipped over kitchen table, throwing my computer, broken mirrors; he never punched me but would push me, hold me down, or force himself on me. I couldn't afford to leave. I was already going to school full time and working full time. Going back home wasn't an option because my mom's husband was a crazy drunk too. When our lease was up I left, but I was stuck in the relationship until it was over. It really sucked. I never thought I would put myself in a situation like that until I realized that I was in one. My best way of explaining it is that they just don't punch you out of nowhere, they slowly chip away at you so you don't realize it is happening. I'm very thankful I'm not in that relationship anymore and have my DH who is not like that at all.

Sorry, I went to copy this to put it in word realy quick to make sure I spelled everything alright because I typed so much and I deleted it on here so now I had to paste it back so I'm sure it will be in a weird font now. Ayways, I really hope she leave for her daughter's sake, but I understand how the cycle of abuse makes that hard.

  • huahua- You just said my life story before I met DH.  No joke. It was like I was writing it, except it was my mom who what the massive alcoholic who dated many abusive men (to her and to us).  It's so sad that this is becoming the 'norm'

  • I'm surprised she would show something like that on fb. I never would have thought I'd be in an abusive relationship, but my ex before DH was. I was with my ex for almost 3 years and he didn't get physically abusive until the end, but I had a very hard time leaving him. He made me feel like I didn't deserve anything better. It's a terrible thing and I would hope for the sake of her child this girl doesn't go back to this guy.

  • So sad to hear that so many of you ladies experience this. Wish I could give you all a huge hug!
  • It is sad, but I'm going to everything I can do to make sure that my some is respectful to women and that if I have any future daughters that they know they deserve a man that is respectful to them.
