Adoption

Intro

I've been watching/lurking/occasionally posting here for a while and figured I'd finally formally introduce myself and my family.

We have three beautiful biological daughters and are pursuing adopting a son from Ghana.  DH is a middle school teacher and I am blessed to be able to stay home with the girls.

Our stateside paperwork is completed and our dossier was submitted incountry at the end of March.  So now we are just "officially" waiting for the call.  Every time I come home and see the voicemail light blinking I think, "this could be it!"  Unfortuantely, that hasn't happened yet, but we're hanging in there.

  • Yea for Ghana!!

Our nanny is Ga (from a tribe near Acra).   I love to talk with her about the culture and life....  in case you ever have questions about life in Ghana, I can connect you :)  She's fabulous!

I was very draw to Ghana for a third adoption... then we thought Ethiopia was a better fit. Alas we settled for a third domestic adoption.  We just didn't want to travel w/two young girls.

How young are your daughters?  Will they travel with you?  I remember reading the the trip or trips were a few weeks in length, yes??

Can't wait to hear more :)

PS- My husband is a teacher too.... they make great dads :)

    I love my rainbow baby!

  • Our daughters are 5, 2 1/2, and 1.  They will be staying with family during our trips.  While I'd LOVE to travel together and meet their brother together, I'm leery of traveling with such young children (especially to an area with so many mosquito-borne illnesses).  Our agency says that the trips are typically one week to 10 days in length.  It'll be hard to leave the girls, but totally worth it in the end!

I'm so excited about Ghana.  The culture and land are amazing.  Can't wait to teach our son all about his homeland, and, hopefully, all travel back as a family when he's older to visit.

P.S.- teachers ARE amazing dads!! :)
