Baby Showers

FTM shower questions

Hi. I'm a FTM and probably a little early for this board but watching your threads has been super helpful so I thought you might answer a couple of questions I have about showers...

For those of you who have a friend throwing your shower, when did they offer?

For those of you whose mom is throwing your shower where you live (different than her city), can it be at your house?

A couple of my closest friends have moved far away, prob too far to fly in for a shower. Do you invite them still?

Re: FTM shower questions

  • My friends offered around 24/25 weeks.

Yes it's fine to have the shower at your house, as long as someone else is hosting it.

I invited all close friends.  My rule was if I'd send them a birthday card, I'd invite them to the shower.

My BFF offered at 24 weeks.

My mom lives across the country. She could not attend.

Anyone, friends or family, that you would like to attend. You can send them courtesy invites. I still sent invitations to long distance relatives and friends. None of them could make it, but they did call or email to thank me for thinking of them.

  • My friends offered around 15 weeks? It's out of state and I'm flying there when I'm 28 weeks so maybe that's why they offered so early.

Yes, it can be at your house, but I personally would try to avoid that.

Yes, invite them. I live in TN, but my friends live in CA. My friend invited me to her shower and I thought it was sweet that she thought of me.

  • My cousin and best friend offered to throw my shower right after I told them I was pregnant! I was 12 weeks along at this point.

And as far as invites, I have family all over and I sent invites to people out of town because that way they knew they weren't forgotten. I have recived gifts from them through the mail as well just because they wanted to get our LO something. And I knew 100% some of them could not or would not be able to come because of living so far away!

    hope this helps, GL

  • My mom and sister offered around 20 weeks... my best friend offered around 18.  Since mom and sis both live very far out of town I had my friend join forces with them.  This is great because now it's at my friend's house and not mine.

I'm not inviting people whom I know cannot make it.  I will send them a birth announcement so they feel included.

  • I was probably about 30 weeks before a baby shower was mentioned (and then I ended up having 3).  My 2nd cousin hosted my first shower, a church friend hosted the church shower and a friend at work hosted a work shower.

I have hosted showers before in the MTB's home and it is not a big deal.  My name is down as hostess and they RSVP to me.

I invited DH's family and they lived from 3-5 hours away.  I also invited my best friend who was 14 hours away and I knew she couldn't make it but I also knew she was expecting an invite.

  • Thx everyone! Etiquette questions never get fully addressed in the articles/books. The bump boards are the best!
