Need help

I had my twin boys a week ago. They were born at 37 weeks and I know that they can be harder to teach to bf. My boys both have troubles latching on. One more than the other. I can usually get them both to latch on my left side but rarely on my right. We've had to do a lot of supplementing which I'm not proud of but had to do it to keep their body temps up. Now I'm running into the issue of my right side is starting to try to dry up and my insurance is taking its sweet time to pay for my pump. Is there any way to help keep the milk coming in? I still have the boys try both sides each time just not near as much luck on the right for some reason. I also have been trying to squeeze as much out as possible for my body will keep attempting to make more. I know it isn't getting near as much out as the boys would or the pump. Feeling kind of lost on what else to try at this point. I really don't want to have to switch to formula.

Re: Need help

  • A manual hand pump is pretty inexpensive and might tide you over until insurance kicks in for the double electric. Or you could pay to rent a hospital grade one for just a week or two? Also, maybe contact your local leche league. The leaders might know of additional free/ cheap resources.

  • Keep putting them on your right side! Just keep trying. My right side was a dud in the beginning but I kept up with it, and now both sides are pretty much equal.

I agree with PP to see if you can get a manual pump until your insurance kicks in. It would be better than nothing.

Also, don't be so hard on yourself. It sounds like you are doing the best you can. Twin mamas have twice the work!

  • Have you tried a different hold on the other breast? I have to do cross cradle for the right and football for the left, it seems LO can only latch good from that one angle. GL, you are doing a great job, keep it up!
